Musical Heroes - Part III - Greg Dulli - Cara Entertainment Group

Part III in our musical heroes series brings us to Greg Dulli of The Afghan Whigs & other outfits.

In the 3rd installment of musical heroes from our co-founder André Archimbaud, he discusses the musical mystery that is Mr. Greg Dulli of The Afghan Whigs, The Twilight Singers & The Gutter Twins (with Mark Lanegan). To some degree, this is a continuation of my previous piece. It references the sec...

Musical Heroes - Part II - Maynard James Keenan - Cara Entertainment Group

This is the 2nd in a series of pieces that one of our co-founders wrote last year to speak to his musical heroes.

From the band Tool, we give you Maynard James Keenan.

Part II in this series of our co-founder André Archimbaud‘s musical heroes is dedicated to Maynard James Keenan: When I was a little kid, I was put off by the imagery of metal music. I did like some of the music, but I mostly did not & the imagery didn’t help at all. In hindsight, it sounds lam...

Musical Heroes - Part I - Kate Bush - Cara Entertainment Group

A year ago, one of our co-founders wrote a series of essays about his musical heroes.

We figure this somewhat quiet time of the year a good time to share those items here.

Up first? The one & only Kate Bush!

Last year, our co-founder, André Archimbaud, wrote 5 pieces about his musical heroes. Given the time of year that it is & that things tend to go a bit quiet around now through much of January, we thought it a good time to re-share these pieces. Enjoy! As they say, ladies first…I am also writing t...

Going back to our traditional routes, this particular live album is a stunning assemblage of high caliber talent with no compare.

The tremendous piper Paddy Keenan.
The incomparable Dónal Lunney
Matt Malloy of The Chieftains.

...and more!

That this is a live album is all the more amazing!

Sticking with the best or most important live performances ever, this fulfills both.

This Benny Goodman concert live at Carnegie Hall is one of the most important concerts ever held. It broke jazz across the race barrier in 1938 in a place that was largely reserved for classical music.

When the concert was released on vinyl in 1950, it was also the first double LP ever issued.

It is also one of the most impressive arrangements of talent in jazz history:

Benny himself.
Teddy Wilson
Gene Krupa
Johnny Hodges
Count Basie
Lester Young...and many more.

This show is worth your ears, indeed!

We had the pleasure of seeing one of our musical heroes twice this weekend & thought sharing one of his former band's videos.

It's raining here in NYC as if we were in Ireland. Our favorite rainy day record is John Coltrane & Johnny Hartman seen here.

What's yours?

To us, art is freedom. In music, hearing a great live performance - especially a solo live performance - is the epitome of that freedom.

This recording captures the subtle & meandering genius that was & is JeffBuckley.

It's wide open, sometimes noisy, sometimes quiet. But, it is - as noted - genius.

Artistry isn't always aided by technology.

The dearly departed David Bowie & his Ziggy Stardust & The Spiders From Mars rehearsed once or twice before recording this live, in-studio session for the legendary John Peel of the BBC.

This session underscores that art is often times best left raw & underthought instead of cooked & overwrought.

It was U2's first single, but it will be our second post.Apropos!
