The Davey days of summer are here ☀️
This 5 year old brindle beauty may be a work in progress but he is worth it. He loves to go on long walks, play ball, and curl up with a good chew toy. He is a high energy dog so a yard is a plus for Davey. After exercising he settles down for a nice massage and a peanut butter kong. We are currently looking for an experienced foster with no other dogs Initially in the NYC area. We will provide Davey’s foster hero with everything needed to care for him.

We rescued Davey from ACC after a good samaritan found him laying on a busy road here in Queens. He was emaciated and suffered trauma resulting in a fractured pelvis, completely split lip, and cuts and scrapes.

When we pulled Davey to safety his first stop was our orthopedic surgeon and primary vet for medical care. After 6 weeks with us his body had healed but he still had some emotional healing to do so we teamed up with Jeff Coltenback, one of our trusted trainers. Jeff has worked extensively with Davey on basic commands, manners, impulse control and leash work. We are excited for Davey’s future. To help make his dreams come true apply at Zionsmission.org 🙏 #FosterDavey #ZionSentUs ❤️

😀 This Sunday Bamboo is smiling just a bit more than usual if that is even possible. Our boy is back with his original foster mom and dad and he couldn’t be happier. At the end of March Boo went to foster with Jadel and Cody here in Rockaway. His foster parents worked closely with us and our local trainer Laura Miller to successfully onboard him into their home. Pretty soon Boo was living his best life enjoying hikes, long walks on Rockaway Beach, and evening trying his paw at skateboarding.

Unfortunately, the landlord had only agreed to let him stay to June so we were forced to move him last week. His foster parents were so upset that they considered moving in order to be able to take back their beloved Boo who they have grown to love so much. In an incredible turn of events the landlord saw how distraught the couple was and agreed to let Boo come back 🙌

So this past Friday night we were able to reunite Boo with his favorite peeps. When we drove up Boo’s foster mom Jadel came running to the car crying so happy to see him. Boo was smiling ear to ear and it was one of the most heartwarming moments to witness. We met with the landlord that night as well who reiterated Boo was welcomed to stay. So with that Boo is now officially in a foster to adopt home!

Needless to say, he has seamlessly slipped back into his routine and is as happy as ever. Stay tuned for what we hope is even better news to come 👻 #BooIsBack #BooBoo #Bamboozled #RockawayBoo #Grateful

🐶 Puppies, puppies, and more puppies. 12 to be exact. When we rescued mama Willow we had no idea she had these precious passengers on board. We are so honored to be part of this family’s journey to homes where they will be loved, respected and cherished.

As you can imagine fully vetting 12 pups plus her superstar mom Willow is quite the financial undertaking. Please consider making a life changing donation today here https://www.zionsmission.org/donate ❤️ Thank you!

🙏 5 week old Luna had to be rushed to our vet for an emergency appointment. She was lethargic, disoriented and unsteady on her tiny paws. X-rays, bloodwork and monitoring at the hospital revealed she was developing an infection and needed some antibiotics, fluids, and an iron shot. We are happy to report she is now doing great as are her 12 other brothers and sisters.

As you can imagine fully vetting 12 pups plus her superstar mom Willow is quite the financial undertaking, nevermind emergencies like this. Please consider making a lifesaving donation today

Who can help? We need a foster for sweet Nicky. He is such a good boy. And while he has a little stranger danger and needs slow intros to some people it’s not that big of a deal. He is a super sweet and easygoing boy who is good with some dogs and cats. Please consider opening your heart and home to Nicky if you live within 60 miles of NYC area. We cover all expenses for our fosters. For more information on Nicky and to apply to be his hero today visit zionsmission.org 🙏

💔 Ollie's body was tired and just like that the light that once shined so bright in his beautiful eyes began to fade. So with all the strength we could muster we made the excruciating decision to set him free. Together, with some of Ollie's most beloved caretakers at our vet we formed a circle of love around him and said goodbye.

We rescued our little prince this past January from horrifying breeders in Far Rockaway who had let him suffer with an untreated eye injury. When we finally negotiated his release, and he was brought outside to us, Ollie was so petrified he wouldn't walk. We scooped him up, got him in our car, and by the time we reached Blue Pearl in Forest Hills for treatment we were head over heels in love. There was just something extra special about him. Something you couldn't put your finger on. In the days following we watched him blossom into a carefree comical little boy who kept us all laughing with his awkward bounces, gallops, and summersaults. And when he was tuckered out from tossing his favorite toys around he liked to cuddle and be the little spoon.

Ollie lived with Matt and myself and at Kim's house before going to his amazing foster family. But since he was plagued with one mystery infection after another he often called Howard Beach Animal Clinic his home. For the past 5 weeks Dr. Roufail and the incredibly loving staff not only cared for Ollie medically but also emotionally. Due to COVID guidelines we were prohibited from visiting him everyday like we had during past hospitalizations but we didn't worry because we knew he was in the best of hands. Ollie had become their dog as much as he was ours. He had the run of the hospital every morning from 8 to 10. He hung out in their offices, he played ball on the days he was feeling up to it and when he was able to eat on his own without the help of his feeding tube he had many lunches happily shared with him. On the days Ollie didn't feel well he received an abundance of cuddles, kisses and words of encouragement. He had a favorite kennel where he could view the hospital just the way he liked it and watch the goings on. Often times his caretakers would take turns laying inside with him. The staff members were so attached to Ollie that they would call in to see how he was doing on their days off because this is just how special he was.

There are no words that could ever properly convey how much we miss him, how much we love him, or how much we wanted him to stay. There are many people who don't deserve the life they have. Then there was Ollie. Why he had to go and they get to stay we will never understand. It just isn't fair.

With our whole hearts we thank his angel here on earth and all those who helped get him the best medical care possible. We did everything we could for Ollie and if love alone could have saved him he never would have died. He was one of the most special souls we have ever met and while we are heartbroken we wouldn’t trade our time with him for anything. Until we meet again our beautiful loving boy 💔 #ZionSentUs

🙏 Please hold a loving thought for our Ollie who still remains hospitalized after 4 weeks. We thought he was going to be able to be released two weeks ago when we last updated you but heartbreakingly he had another setback. Recently, we had another glimmer of hope when his bloodwork came back showing much improvement. Today more bloodwork will be done to see where we are at.

Despite having the best care the kidney issues and complications that come with it have taken a toll on his precious body. The good news is Ollie's spirit remains strong. Due to COVID guidelines we haven't been able to visit with him as much as we would like while he is in the hospital but we were able to spend some time with him over the weekend. He is one of the most amazing souls we have ever met and we are holding out hope for a miracle recovery. Please send healing thoughts, prayers, and well-wishes to our Ollie for good news today ❤️ #Zionsentus

🙏 We are desperately seeking two separate adopters or foster hero homes for both 5 year old Nicky and 4 year old Bamboo. Both dogs are incredibly loving, incredibly eager to please, and incredibly deserving. Unlike the hundreds of applications we continue to receive for the puppies we currently have for adoption these two receive almost no interest. Frankly, I just don't understand.

Yes, puppies are cute but they grow up and will no doubt need more training than these precious pups who are already well behaved. While Nicky and Bamboo do have some personality quirks they are also really easygoing and pretty spectacular in their own ways. And I guarantee you the puppies people overlook these two for will also not be perfect when all grown up. That said, we are searching high and low for two extraordinary people who will foster these incredible souls.

We cover all expenses for our dogs while in foster and we support their needs in every way. If you are in the NYC/NJ area please consider opening your heart and home today to Boo or Nicky. Click here to read more about Nicky and Bamboo https://www.zionsmission.org/meetouranimals

🙏 FOSTER NEEDED! SHOW YOU CARE AND SHARE!
Bamboo is searching high and low for his new foster heroes, could it be you? Our boy has been doing fantastic in his current situation but unfortunately his current foster parents commitment is coming to an end. We are desperately seeking a loving new situation for our boy. 4 year old Boo Boo is a puppy at heart with his spunky and playful personality. His comical antics and jovial disposition will surely keep a smile on your face. After playtime he loves to cuddle with his favorite human. Here he is on Rockaway Beach enjoying some fun in the sun.

He is great with older kids, some cats and sometimes other same size doggies, though Ideally he can find a foster hero where he can be the only dog. He needs someone who will exercise his body and mind, and a yard for him to play in is a plus 🐾 If you live in the NY/NJ area and are interested in this special fellow please apply at zionsmission.org #fosteringsaveslives #BeBoosHero
PLEASE, SHOW YOU CARE AND SHARE 🙏

05/18/2020

💔 Recently we noticed our beloved 16 year old Ferdie had a mast cell tumor developing in the same spot he had previously had one removed not too long ago. It was growing quickly so we arranged for immediate surgery. His chest xrays were clear but when they did the ultrasound this time they found that he has multiple tumors internally and they have metastasized. For this reason our trusted vet advised against surgery. Instead, we started Ferdie on prednisone and palladia, which is a targeted chemotherapy pill specifically for mast cell tumors.

When we received the devastating news that yet another one of our dogs was terminal we contacted our loving friends at Fur Angel Blessing Blanketeers to request a blessings blanket. We are so grateful to Amy Davis Haithcoat for making Feridie's blanket and everyone who helps fill each one with love, hope and strength.

Another amazing volunteer, MB Cammilleri, made Ferdie's best friend and snuggle mate Nya's blanket when she was first diagnosed over a year ago with cancer and was beginning chemotherapy. And while Nya has been happily sharing hers with Ferdie we are so grateful he has a blessing blanket of his very own. Here the two of them are with his.

Our promise to Ferdie, as it is with all our terminally ill dogs is to ensure they have the highest quality of life. We take our cues from them, and as long as they want to fight we do too. But we listen, and when they tell us it is time to stop we always do. We are thrilled to report that Ferdie's tumors are shrinking since beginning his protocol and he is enjoying his days playing, snuggling and eating peanut butter kongs. Please hold a loving thought that this continues. Words can't express how much we all love him 🙏 #NotTodayCancer

#NotTodayCancer 👊
The greatest gift you can receive, is another day of life. Without fail these incredible humans come to work everyday so dogs like our Nya can receive lifesaving chemotherapy treatments. Without their dedication and bravery lives would most certainly be lost. The second Nya sees Stephanie, seen here, coming out of BluePearl Veterinary Partners in Forest Hills to get her for treatment she takes off like a bullet with me in tow, as Nya can’t wait to get to Stephanie to greet her with her signature kiss, cuddle, and wiggle combination.

The love, trust, and confidence Nya has with Dr. Josh and all the members of her oncology team at Blue Pearl doesn’t happen by accident, and most certainly doesn’t happen everywhere. With our whole hearts we thank these heroes and Nya’s biggest fans who have made it possible for her to be here today living the life she loves so much ❤️ #zionismymommy #grateful #thankful

🙌 Baby Mack had an excellent check up and his bloodwork results were normal for the first time ever with a normal WBC count. Dr. Roufail was able to begin vaccinations finally at 8 months old.

Mack has had a difficult medical history being diagnosed early on with puppy strangles, an autoimmune disorder that occurs when the immune system mistakenly attack's the body's healthy cells.

We are hopeful that on his next visit in a few weeks things are going as well and he will receive another vaccine. Here he is with his superstar foster parents Meggie and Joe 🐾 #Zionsentus #BlindisBeautiful #Fosteringsaveslives

Our favorite kind of fosters are those who fail. Fail at giving up our doggies that is. We are ecstatic to announce that Star has officially been adopted by his foster turned forever family!

Star was displaced from his former home due to domestic violence. Thankfully, both he and his former mom safely escaped. She decided it was best they part ways and reached out for help. And when we met with her to take Star I promised her we would ensure that he finds the best home. We definitely kept our promise.

With our whole hearts we thank Kathy who answered our emergency plea for a foster home for this most amazing soul. She opened her heart and home when he needed her most. And it was clear from the first moment they met that they had an incredibly special connection. Happy life sweet Star ⭐️ #Zionsentus

Foster Nicky aka Mr. Nickels 🐾
This 5 year old stunner loves nothing more than cuddling with his humans while enjoying a peanut butter kong. Often, he will fall asleep with his favorite antler toy clutched between his precious paws.

Nicky is an easygoing boy who had an incredibly rough start to his life. He was thrown out like trash and then warehoused in a filthy crate in a hoarding situation for years before rescue. Understandably, he is initially a bit cautious of strangers but after a proper introduction he will shower you with kisses. Nicky will do best in a home with a yard for him to play in, and a patient human who will continue to work with him. When not playing Nicky loves to snuggle under the covers.

Nicky is good older kids and with some same size dogs. He is currently bunking up with one of our trusted trainers and friends Laura Miller where he is working in his doggie social skills. Ideally we are looking for a foster initially where he can be the only dog. We cover all expenses for our dogs while being fostered.
