Ambassador Susan E. Rice! She served as President Obama’s National Security Advisor and U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations from 2009-2017. She is the author of the New York Times best-selling memoir, "Tough Love: My Story of the Things Worth Fighting For".

On Tuesday afternoon we, had the distinct honor of hosting a "Conversation with Susan Rice" lead by her brother John Rice, Founder and CEO of MLT.

The conversation discussed her memoir which covers everything from her parents and childhood to her time with President Obama. It was a fascinating afternoon, she is incredibly impressive.

Thank you Amb Rice!

On November 7th and 8th, Ebonee Noel of CBS' FBI and Barbara Matos, VP, Diversity and Inclusion, CBS Corporation were among the participants of this year's PITCHNY.

Industry Leaders join Aspiring Filmmakers, Producers and Writers for Two Days of Learning and Networking at Legendary 30 Rockefeller Plaza

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced the fourth installment of PITCHNY℠, a two-day workshop to provide aspiring young filmmakers, producers and writers from across New York State with resources and in-person mentorship from entertainment industry leaders to advance their careers. The event, hosted by the Governor's Office of Motion Picture & Television Development and NBCUniversal in collaboration with Tribeca Film Institute, is the most recent state initiative to promote the inclusion of diverse voices across the entertainment industry.

"New York's greatest strength is our diversity, and we want to break down barriers to help ensure people from different backgrounds have a seat at the table in the film and television industry," Governor Cuomo said. "This event connects a diverse set of aspiring young content creators with the mentors, exposure and resources they need to gain access to the industry, paving the way for new talent and generations of diverse writers, directors, producers and studio executives."

Secretary to the Governor Melissa DeRosa, who spoke at the PITCHNY℠ event, said, "Under Governor Cuomo's leadership, New York State is setting a nation-leading example creating equal opportunity for all, and PITCHNY℠ perfectly encapsulates those efforts. This is an exciting and inspiring event that's opening doors for diverse young filmmakers, producers and writers from across the Empire State to make their unique voices and stories heard through screenplays, scripts and the silver screen."

The Governor's Office of Motion Picture & Television Development works closely with studios and non-profit organizations to cultivate New York's homegrown talent and help build and expand pathways for aspiring content creators. To participate in PITCHNY℠, undergraduate and graduate students and recent alumni interested in careers in the entertainment industry submitted applications and were selected by the Tribeca Film Institute. The 50 finalists hail from areas throughout New York State and represent a combination of public and private universities, including:

Barnard College
Brooklyn College
City College of New York
The College of Saint Rose
Columbia University
CUNY Baruch College
Fashion Institute of Technology
Fordham University
Hofstra University
Hunter College
Ithaca College
LaGuardia Community College
Long Island University Brooklyn
Marist College
The New School
New York University
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
Sarah Lawrence College
Schenectady County Community College
St. John's University
SUNY Buffalo State
SUNY Empire State College
SUNY Oswego
SUNY Potsdam
SUNY Purchase
SUNY University at Buffalo
Syracuse University

The first day of the two-day event included a practice pitch workshop led by Tribeca Film Institute and a welcome reception enabling networking between participants and industry veterans. The second day featured informational panels, round table discussions and a one-on-one "speed dating" pitch session with entertainment experts. The event was held within NBCUniversal's legendary headquarters at 30 Rockefeller Plaza.

Participants were paired with producers, writers, directors, developers and executives from Universal Content Productions, Tangerine Entertainment, America's Rainbow Film Festival, Warner Horizon TV, DeFina Film Productions, Tribeca Film Festival, Topic Studios, Stockade Works, CBS Corporation, Edgeworx Studios, WBTV, HBO, Berlanti Productions, Int'l Puerto Rican Heritage Film Festival, Red Crown Productions, Sony Pictures Entertainment and Bushwick Film Festival. Actress Ebonée Noel, who plays Analyst Kristen Chazal on CBS's FBI, also joined to deliver remarks highlighting the importance of diverse content creators in the industry.

In these one-on-one sessions, students practiced their story pitches and received feedback and constructive criticism from industry leaders. The industry representatives simulated real-life pitching situations and gave students an opportunity to share their stories and enhance their pitching skills. These "speed dating" pitching sessions also connected entertainment industry leaders with a rising generation of diverse content creators.

Empire State Development Acting Commissioner and President & CEO-designate Eric Gertler said, "The film and television industry is an important part of our state's economy, and today's PITCHNY℠ event is one of many ways we are expanding the entertainment sector and working with industry professionals to expand pathways and increase opportunities for talented New Yorkers."

New York State continues to lead the nation in the fight for social justice and embracing diversity by passing legislation to ensure LGBTQ rights and marriage equality, welcoming our immigrant community, launching a women's equality agenda and fighting workplace discrimination. PITCHNY℠ builds on Governor Cuomo's legacy of expanding opportunity, increasing diversity, promoting inclusion and standing up for all minority groups in New York State.

New York's $420 million film incentive program is one of the best in the nation. The New York State Governor's Office of Motion Picture & Television Development (MPTV) offers film, television and commercial production and post-production tax credits for qualified expenditures in New York State. Spirit Day is a means of speaking out against LGBTQ bullying and standing with LGBTQ youth, who disproportionately face bullying and harassment because of their identities. Pledging to "go purple" on Spirit Day is a way for everyone — forward-thinking companies, global leaders, respected celebrities, neighbors, parents, classmates, and friends — to visibly show solidarity with LGBTQ youth and to take part in the largest, most visible anti-bullying campaign in the world. #cbspride #cbsdiversity #glaad #spiritday #inclusion #lgbtq #antibullying #losangeles

Coming out and living openly aren’t something you do once, or even for one year. It’s a journey that we make every single day of our lives. Every coming out experience is unique and must be navigated in the way most comfortable for the individual. Whether it's for the first time ever or the first time today, coming out can be an arduous journey. It is also a brave decision to live openly and authentically.

On October 11, 2019, HRC will celebrate the 31st annual National Coming Out Day.

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month

The CBS Corporation Diversity Council together with CBS RAD, the Multicultural Employee Resource Group, and CBS WNG, the Women's Networking Group, hosted a Conversation with Rosie Rios, the 43rd Treasurer of the United States and a Visiting Scholar at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University.

If you open your wallet and check your bills, you're bound to find her signature, there are 1.67 billion in circulation. But that is just one of her very many accomplishments. She is the one who initiated and lead the efforts to place a woman on U.S. currency. She also created the initiative EMPOWERMENT 2020 which facilities the physical recognition of historical American women, which includes putting statues of women across the country.

The list is endless. Every time she was asked a question, she excitedly answered she was working on a project that...

She is phenomenal and is doing remarkable work.

After the Conversation she stayed and signed currency for everyone in attendance. She answered more questions, gave folks individual time, signed bills and took pictures and did so genuinely and with a smile on her face.

As she was signing a young lady's dollar bill, the young lady was clearly in awe. Rosie asked her, what struck you from the conversation? The young lady responded "everything, you have inspired me." Then she says, "you're so amazing I just can't believe I didn't know about you until today." Rosie smiled and responded I've been under rock.

Clearly Rosie has not been under a rock, this woman is working tirelessly to make a real difference, to be the change she wants to see in the world. She also just happens to be the perfect example of 'working hard in silence and letting success make the noise.' This woman is incredibly inspiring.

CBS Diversity and Inclusion is thrilled we had this opportunity.
