My Rhythm Therapy Wellness patrons get weekly slow food vegan recipes that make their bellies happy!!!

This week we have Spicy Thai Peanut Sauce over Roasted 🍠 sweet potatoes.

Sweet potatoes contain minerals including manganese, iron, phosphorus and magnesium. Manganese plays a viral role in calcium absorption and regulation of blood sugar.

Yes sweet potatoes have a high calorie count but sweet potatoes are a complex carbohydrate. Our body needs carbohydrates as a source of energy and to regulate blood sugar.

Sweet potatoes have vitamins A,C and E which are the vitamin trifecta for healthy skin and hair. Vitamin C helps stimulate collagen production which makes the skin firm and healthy.

Sweet potatoes are fantastic for the heart and mental attitude.

19 Women of Color to Watch in the Yoga World in 2019

As I write Those yoga plays I’m inspired by the real life yoga teachers of color out there in the empire shining their lights bright!!!

I’m happy to say I know several of these women personally and highly recommend them.

Back in February , a newer and seemingly progressive online yoga magazine published a list of 19 Yoga and Movement Teachers to Watch in 2019. While every person on that list was totally deserving of recognition, collectively, the list was woefully lacking in diversity. In fact, in a list of 19 peo

Let go of “Riding the Busy” and connect to…Joy.

In a society where success is the defining aspect of happiness, what happens when we fail? What happens when we don’t get into the right school, or the right job, or house? What if we don’t get the right spouse? Are we spending our lives being busy in order to distract ourselves from reality? What if we lose our profession after we’ve “made it”?

Where does our happiness live?

04/04/2019

It’s hard for me to tolerate dancing in white female led conscious spaces with mostly white women anymore.

You know the ones...those popular alcohol free parties that usually have a “soulful “white woman with that cool attractive black guy, or guys, as her DJ and drummers onstage.

The crowd is speckled with perhaps a few lovely beautiful dark skinned gay black men and the black guys with white girlfriends who flick their hair with wild abandon with an athletic attempt to mimic west African rhythms. There may be one or two light skinned bi racial black women with huge angela Davis like afros or funky Zoe Kravitz style locs perfect for an show of diversity for Insta.

I can no longer tolerate dancing in these spaces where when I let my guard down and process my trauma through movement the white women near me automatically consume my movements, either attempting to compete with me on the dance floor or over compliment me after the dance. “Oh I so enjoyed watching you” they say as if my body, my healing, my dance is on display for their pleasure.

I can no longer tolerate the weak offers of “how can I support you?” By fellow facilitators who, when I tell them what I really need give me the fake smile and brush off never actually backing up their “love and light” with conscious action.

Conscious Dance is my connection to joy so I can. I can dance at parties that welcome black women to shine our light bright.

I can dance at conscious dance Parties In Brooklyn that give explicit space to people of color:
Mood ring
Bossa Nova civic club
Nowadays....and at Cassandra Numah’s dance classes any time she’s teaching in NYC.

And I can create conscious dance space that welcomes black women to heal and gives white women and men rules of dance engagement to co exist with us mindfully on the dance floor.

Yes, I can create that space at Rhythm Therapy’s JourneyDance workshops. My next one...Saturday May 18th Chelsea Piers Fitness Brooklyn.

As I dive back into conscious dance I do so with racial mindfulness. I’m down to create with and welcome white people who are co-conspirators, strong enough to disrupt systems that support racial inequities in the yoga and dance worlds and beyond.

I’m down to black and white folks who are ready to reconcile without words dancing what can’t be said between us.
