2013: What's In Store For Crowdfunding And Angel Investors

The SEC expands fundraising exemptions for private companies.

The SEC has adopted a new set of rules to make it easier for small and medium-sized private companies to raise capital.

Federal securities laws require that companies file with the SEC and publish financial statements and other information before they accept investors' money. But there are several exemptions that the SEC revised on Monday.

The agency doubled companies' exemption amount to $10 million from $5 million under Regulation D. It also increased the amount companies can raise from individual investors and firms to $75 million from $50 million under the Regulation A exemption. The limit on crowdfunding deals was raised from $1.07 million to $5 million.

Companies will also be able to make these so-called exempt offerings within 30 days of each other rather than the current six-month waiting period.

Our teams at LDJ Capital and The Soho Loft celebrate these recent developments as we remember our work in the space for over a decade.

Email us at [email protected] if you have any questions on these recent changes in the regulations.

14 Leadership Lessons From ZoomInfo Co-Founder and CEO Henry Schuck

Artificial Intelligence in business development is an area seeing disruption thanks to mass adoption of this technology. This industry is expected to see massive growth beyond the pandemic, which is why the first tech IPO of the Covid era was one of the most-talked about of the year. With a stock price that soared over 60 percent above expectations in its June debut, ZoomInfo (NASDAQ: ZI) – a SaaS platform that helps B2B sales and marketing professionals identify and connect with their next customers – is clearly here to stay. To discuss the company’s success story, I had the pleasure of hosting a chat with co-founder and CEO Henry Schuck for the seventh episode in Comparably’s “Leadership Lessons” series with Entrepreneur. #leadership #businessleaders

3 Ways To Ensure Your Crisis Management And Communication Plans Will Work

Even before Covid-19, companies and organizations were gambling with their futures and the health and lives of employees if they did not take steps to ensure their crisis plans would work when needed — assuming, of course, that they had plans in place.
According to a 2019 survey conducted by CS&A International and PR News, about 62 percent of companies had crisis plans, though it was uncertain how many updated them on a regular basis. Almost 60% of the middle and senior managers surveyed said they never conducted a crisis exercise or were not sure how often their companies held exercises. #businessleadership #businessleaders

What could possibly go wrong if your company does not have a crisis plan or tests it on a regular basis? In a word, plenty. If your organization would rather be safe than sorry, there are three things it can do to help protect itself:

3 Tips to Avoid WFH Burnout

Millions around the globe have made a sudden transition to remote work amid the #Covid19 pandemic. Not surprisingly, this has some employers concerned about maintaining employee productivity. But what they really should be concerned about in this unprecedented situation is a longer-term risk: employee burnout.
The risk is substantial. The lines between work and non-work are blurring in new and unusual ways, and many employees who are working remotely for the first time are likely to struggle to preserve healthy boundaries between their professional and personal lives. To signal their loyalty, devotion, and productivity, they may feel they have to work all the time. Afternoons will blend with evenings; weekdays will blend with weekends; and little sense of time off will remain. It’s possible that some employees may be asked to continue working remotely for several months. #businessleaders

How millennials have been affected by unemployment during coronavirus
Between the end of March and the beginning of August, over 1 million people applied for unemployment insurance — each week. And millennials, who are currently between the ages of 24 and 38, may be the group hit hardest by the economic turmoil of the pandemic. CNBC Make It spoke with young unemployed workers and economists to hear how millennials have been impacted by unemployment and learned how the pandemic has laid bare the critical role of our unemployment system, as well as its flaws.

5 Principles to Guide Adaptive Leadership

The #Covid-19 pandemic is constantly evolving, with leaders facing unpredictability, imperfect information, multiple unknowns, and the need to identify responses quickly — all while recognizing the multi-dimensional (health-related, economic, social, political, cultural) nature of the crisis.

Meet America’s Best Temporary Staffing Firms 2020

When the #coronavirus started to spread across the United States in February, David Savitsky, cofounder and #CEO of ATC Healthcare Services, wasted no time preparing his team. He knew that hospitals in New York City would need support, and his temporary staffing firm would have a role to play on the frontlines. By the end of March, his prediction had proved correct, and ATC Healthcare had staffed New York City hospitals with hundreds of nurses from throughout the country and increased its business by 35%. “They wanted to do the meaningful, necessary work to take care of the people who were affected by the pandemic,” Savitsky says. “Our role is really to find jobs for people, find institutions that are looking for personnel and facilitate that.”

How coronavirus could usher in a new age of automation

“ #Businesses are kind of looking and seeing that humans can get sick from #Covid,” said Marcus D. Casey, an associate professor of economics at the University of Illinois at Chicago. “Machines can’t. Even if we don’t see it right away, we surely see that there’s going to be a move toward more #automation.”

A recent McKinsey study found that artificial intelligence and deep learning could add as much as $3.5 trillion to $5.8 trillion in annual value for companies. The economic shock of the coronavirus pandemic hasn’t helped. In fact, Covid-19 could be accelerating the pace of automation. To put the increase in robotics in perspective, the U.S. had 0.49 robots per 1,000 workers in 1995. That number rose to 1.79 robots per 1,000 workers in 2017.

From burger-flipping machines to car-building robots — not to mention high-powered software taking on more and more administrative tasks — automation is rapidly making hundreds of skills obsolete in the U.S. economy. The coronavirus could be accelerating its pace.
