We are all from Africa. She is the site of origin for the first forms of human civilization—the birthplace of humanity. And yet her story has never been told with all the complexness of humanity. Generally documentary films either show Africa in a strictly positive or negative light; it’s come time to tell her full truth. We yearn to tell the story of Africa from a positive perspective because right now we are hearing negative messages voiced by world leaders who should know better. We will combat views that are based on misinformation and prejudice. At the same time, the greatest service we can do for Africa is to portray her fully and honestly, and that means talking about the major problems she is facing as well: corruption, war, poverty, and social strife.
Our documentary film series The Cradle explores the material and moral debt owed to Mother Africa for her magnificent art, music, cuisine, fashion, indigenous tradition, science and technology, as well as the dark side—economies built off the backs of people stolen from their homeland.
We will showcase Africa’s innumerable gifts to the world in a thorough, factual, and nuanced way. We will explore the diversity of her people, her vibrant cultures, ancient traditions, rich heritage, and her tremendous influence on culture worldwide.
