“Latin music continues to thrive on the global stage, and even in the regions where it’s most passionately embraced, there is exciting potential for growth as we work to overcome challenges like lower monetization and economic hurdles.” — Jorge Mejia, President/CEO, Latin America & U.S. Latin

Last night, SMP’s Chairman & CEO Jon Platt received recognition at the inaugural Honours — as a leader who never stops fighting for songwriters. His recognition, alongside RAYE’s fearless stand for artists, reminds us that the future of music belongs to those who demand fairness and amplify creators’ voices.

As Jon said, ‘When a songwriting organization reaches out, that hits a bit different… it’s an honor to be recognized by an Academy that fights so hard on behalf of songwriters.’

“Amid the booming success of “Love Me Not,” Lenae inked a deal earlier this summer with Sony Music Publishing, home to Dahi and the song’s co-writer Sarah Aarons. SMP has been on a long hot streak in the publishing A&R space, recently receiving publisher of the year at the 2025 ASCAP Pop and BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards for hits from songwriters Sounwave and Mustard. “Ravyn and Dahi have a proven magic together,” says Katie Welle, president, head of US A&R. “We strive to be great listeners for our talent, whether they need to hunker down with a small crew to create or they are looking for new co-writer ideas for the mix to push boundaries.””

Ravyn Lenae explains how her breakthrough hit 'Love Me Not' became one of the year's most unexpected hits.

"I’m an optimist when it comes to music. The universe reminds us all the time that new talent is going to emerge. The session you set up eight months ago is going to land on an important album, or the songwriter you believed in many years ago is going to have a hit next year."

Sony Music Publishing's president and head of U.S. A&R tells us about her career path and the state of play in the sector (hint: It's all about the song).

The Sony/ATV Story

Sony/ATV's origins date back to 1955 when British-based media businessman and impresario Lew Grade founded Associated Television (ATV). In 1957, ATV acquired Pye Records as a wholly-owned subsidiary. At the time, Pye Records was one of the three major record companies in the UK and, along with EMI and Decca Records, accounted for the vast majority of records sold in the country. ATV Music Publishing was then created to exploit the catalog of songs written by artists on the Pye Record label and for the themes to Independent Television Corporation and ATV programs. Grade established ATV's headquarters alongside those of Pye Records, off of Edgware Road, beside the Marble Arch in central London. Under Grade, ATV Music Publishing's acquisitions included in 1968 Northern Songs, which had been set up five years earlier to look after songs written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. The ATV song catalog, including Northern Song, was eventually acquired in 1985 by Michael Jackson and was then merged in December 1995 with Sony Music Publishing to form Sony/ATV Music Publishing. In 2012 Sony/ATV led a consortium to acquire EMI Music Publishing, creating the world's leading music publishing company. Together with EMI Music Publishing, Sony/ATV owns or administers around 2.8 million copyrights, including iconic music catalogs such as Leiber & Stoller, Mijac Music, the Jobete catalog of Motown songs and Famous Music, while songs it publishes include "New York, New York", "Hallelujah", "Hey Jude", "You've Got A Friend", "Every Breath You Take", "Moon River", "Jailhouse Music", "Billie Jean", "The Mission Impossible Theme", "Ain't No Mountain High Enough", "Over The Rainbow", "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Stand By Me", "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" and "Singin' In The Rain". It represents the copyrights of legendary artists including The Beatles, Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson, Carole King, Kraftwerk, Joni Mitchell, Willie Nelson, Roy Orbison, Queen, The Rolling Stones, Sting, The Supremes, Hank Williams and Stevie Wonder. Its contemporary roster includes Akon, Avicii, Norah Jones, Alicia Keys, Lady Gaga, Calvin Harris, P!nk, RedOne, Shakira, Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, Stargate, Taylor Swift, Kanye West and Pharrell Williams. Headquartered in New York City, Sony/ATV Music Publishing has 30 offices in 23 countries, including Los Angeles, Nashville and London.
