Google Pixel phone users: an identified app freeze has been reported and there is a fix:

1. Go into the Google Play App Store, then into Games & Apps
2. Look for recently updated apps, specifically Chrome and VR Core.
3. Uninstall Chrome. This will revert to a previous, more stable version. Exit the Play Store and attempt to open the app. If it no longer freezes then it's fixed.
4. If step #3 doesn't work.....uninstall VR Core. Exit the Play Store and attempt to open the app. It should no longer be frozen.

If steps 3 & 4 aren't unfreezing the app......go into all other recently updated apps and one-by-one uninstall them so an earlier version replaces the newer version. I'm relatively confident this is the Chrome update causing the freeze-up.

For Apple users on newer devices or newer versions of iOS: notifications may not be occurring for you when I post new forecasts. Please follow these steps:

1. Close the app and any others operating in the background of your device.
2. Power off/on your device, then open the app and click on the cog in the lower right-hand corner. Toggle off/on the notifications tab.
3. If steps 1 & 2 are unable to resolve your notification issues please contact Apple Support. There has been success in resolving issues thanks to Apple Support.
4. If steps 1, 2, and 3 are unsuccessful (and this is for those subscribed to Chris/East Coast Weather Watch) send an email to [email protected] and you can be added to an email-to-text notification list so you will be notified in an alternate method when new forecasts are posted to the app.

Thanks for all your patience and your continued loyalty is greatly appreciated!

HURRICANE MATTHEW WEDNESDAY UPDATE

Well all I can say is WOW. A lot CAN change in 24 hours. Hurricane Matthew is NOT going to interact with the cold front heading to the mid-Atlantic region this weekend. In fact, computer models are suggesting that - at the very least - Matthew stays of the southeastern US coast and - at worst - gives a 1-2 punch to the Bahamas and Florida. Punch #1 comes tonight and tomorrow for the Bahamas as Matthew may re-intensify back to Cat 4 strength now that he's in very warm ocean waters once again. He lost some of his OOMPH crossing over the eastern side of Cuba.

So pretty much anyone from Virginia up through New England will have little to no impact from Matthew. I say "little to no" because the Virginia coast could still see some rough seas, minor coastal flooding and erosion, and some pretty good winds. The effects lessen exponentially the further north you go.

So while it's a close-call or near-miss or whatever you wanna say for our mid-Atlantic region the reality is that Matthew is STILL a very dangerous hurricane and Floridians need to be completely prepared. Heed all evacuation warnings that are posted.....and this still includes you folks in GA, SC, and NC as well. You're not out of it yet.

If you're asking about travel plans in and out of Florida the best I can tell you is to contact your airline or your travel agent. At some points there will be NO flights going in or out of Florida. So if you're there on vacation hunker down for a wild ride......or come home NOW. If you have vacation plans scheduled talk to your travel agent and figure out what's best.

And if you're down there don't be that dumb-ass who wants to go "play in the water" because chances are pretty good you'll end up sleeping with the fishes.

Tropical storm or hurricane conditions could affect portions of
Florida north of the current Hurricane Watch area, Georgia, South
Carolina, and North Carolina later this week or this weekend, even
if the center of Matthew remains offshore. It is too soon to
specify what, if any, direct impacts Matthew might have on the
remainder of the U.S. east coast farther to the north. At a
minimum, very dangerous beach and boating conditions are likely
along much of the U.S. east coast later this week and weekend.

The DMV is basking in some absolutely gorgeous weather this Sunday afternoon! A cold front has brought cooler temperatures and less humid air. Temperatures are in the upper 60s to low 70s across the region. It's a truly fall-like atmosphere, and I've got my windows open as I type this.

But will it hang on? When's our next chance for rain? Oh yes, there is a chance for rain, which is good news for parched lawns and gardens. Find out the details in the My Weather Concierge app, and ask a question to get a customized forecast for your backyard! Or front yard... we aren't picky!
