New Video: Episode 10 of Vance Powell's Start To Finish Series is Now Available!

The production is complete, and practically sounds like a mix already, but Vance is not about to stop there.
Starting by setting up his SSL console, calibrating his parallel outboard chains, and gain staging everything to set himself up for success, Vance begins the mix of “Sweet Beast” from Illiterate Light.
Watch as Vance:
- Sets up his SSL Console for mixing
- Calibrates his multiple parallel compression chains
- Explains a few tweaks that happened off-camera, shaping tracks like the scratch vocal mic that was in the room during drum tracking, but Jeff did not sing into
- Adds further processing on the samples he created with Jake
- Adds stereo chorusing to the sub guitar
- Adds an Ampeg SVT bass plugin on the Guitar Solo
- Compresses the rhythm guitars
- Sets up Automation on the SSL
- Explains the signal flow of his console and outboard gear
- Breaks down his Vocal Parallel Processing, consisting of three processors to enhance the signal
- Discusses monitor loudness levels during mixing

PLUS: Download Vance's Pro Tools Template made with 100% stock and UAD plugins, and recreate some of the techniques you'll see Vance demonstrate in this video!

New Blog Post: Vance Powell Bass DI/Amp Phase Alignment 📄🖊

When recording electric bass, you have several options. You can capture it direct, you can mic an amp, or you can do both simultaneously and combine them in the mix. You could also start with a DI recording and later reamp it, and combine those in the mix.

Take it away now on our new blog post

https://www.puremix.net/blog/vance-powell-bass-di-amp-phase-alignment.html

See how Grammy winner, Vance Powell aligns the recorded DI and reamped bass tracks, which have a slight timing difference.

Hey guys - who else has entered the Westworld Scoring Competition? Thanks to Pure Mix for the dope wisdom. Applied a lot of what I learnt from the recent interview with Andrew Scheps and Simon Franglen... !
Time in the UK: apparently GMT (general mean time) is used during winter months and BST (british summer time) refers to the clocks being an hour ahead in summer. I always thought of our time as GMT whether it was an hour ahead or an hour behind. Learn something new every day :) 🤓🤓🤓
Y'all are the best. True masters; I am learning so much. I just wanted to say that I would happily pay a lot of money for an updated Andrew Scheps mixing template video, because 1) The Omni, and 2) it seems like his thinking has changed about some core mixing concepts.
Waiting....:)
do you guys have plans to offer an AppleTV or iOS app?
Protools - C24 or the new S3? Clean C24's are selling for as little as $2,400 around me...
I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas. I have a bass line that defines a song. I can get the pops and thumps to stand out but when it goes to the bottom it gets lost in the mix. Any ideas on how to fix this. It is kind of like a Larry Graham Sly Stone or Funkadelic vibe. Thanks for any advice you can give
Regarding your latest thought Fabrice Dupont - the song by Rosalia is not an odd meter, it is one of Flamenco's meters in 12. There are accents that depend on what palo (style) you're playing exactly, but in this case it feels like a "Buleria por solea", which normally has accents on 3,7,8,10 and 12. And actually what feels like the 1 is not the one, it is the 12. Is that confusing enough? hehehe I'm a flamenco guitarist, let me know if you want to know more...
Hello. Have a happy day. They are epitaphs for singing. www.onehundredandoneepitaphs.com
