It's World #BreastfeedingWeek AND National #BreastfeedingMonth!

Our Better With Breastmilk Only campaign promotes giving babies breastmilk only, on demand (day and night), and stopping the practice of giving water (and other liquids and foods), from the moment of birth through the first six months of life. It aims for all countries in West and Central Africa to achieve the global exclusive breastfeeding target of 50 per cent by 2025.

Stronger With Breastmilk Only echoes the call to action of the Global Breastfeeding Collective, a partnership of more than 20 international organizations, with the goal of increasing investment and policy change to support breastfeeding worldwide. This goal requires advocacy at the global, national and sub-national levels in order to meet the global breastfeeding target.

Chuck Stetson and The Coalition for Better Health at Lower Cost are holding a “Prioritizing Health” Fundraiser Zoom Meeting on August 12, 2020 from 7:30pm to 8:30pm (EST).

Expect a presentation and conversation with Dennis Jaffee, Ph.D. on how prominent families have continued for 100 years or more. Dennis has spoken with several generations of over 100 families and is now on his second 100 families and has some very interesting data on how families continue successfully.

One of the areas that Dennis has focused on with successful families is engaging the next generation in the family business. Here we have philanthropy in healthcare which is critically important at this moment in time.

This event will benefit the emerging collaboration between UNESCO and the Coalition which includes setting up an endowment for advocacy for physical education in schools and universities around the globe. Donations start at $400, and you can click below to pay and then register. The donation will be processed through Essentials in Education, a sister foundation, but the acknowledgement for the donation will come from the Coalition for Better Health at Lower Cost.

Making Radio, Making Sense

Meet our incredible Mozambique team behind Ouro Negro! 👋

📻 Making Radio, Making Sense:
Challenges in Mozambique include gender inequality, poor access to education, child marriage, poor sexual and reproductive health and rights, and a lack of adequate nutrition. Using a radio drama and a trans-media multi-platform approach, we aim to disseminate a wide range of messages and interact with audiences in many languages.

The InTxunáveis radio drama tells the story of a group of adolescent students and the villagers of Nguva, led by their traditional leader Sirene. The storyline addresses adolescent sexual and reproductive health, child marriage, maternal and child health, nutrition, WASH, early childhood development, education, and other topics.

Let’s talk about ways we can stay healthy during these difficult times. Let’s talk with youth about their options for contraception, and how they can protect themselves in order to prevent early and unintended pregnancy.

Many conversations are being had around the world about stigma and discrimination, from the individual to the community and structural level. We ask you to take this opportunity to consider how pregnant and parenting adolescents are treated by both yourself and society. Are you supporting them to complete their education so they can give back to the community as adults? Are you treating them with the compassion and dignity every person deserves?

Let’s talk about supporting and implementing school re-entry policies for parent learners. Let’s make something positive come out of the #COVID19 pandemic by ensuring all young people can return to school when it is safe. #LetsTalkAtHome

Caribbean Breaking Up with Plastics

It’s Clean Beaches Week, here in the US! We’re revisiting our Caribbean #BreakingUpWithPlastics video 👀
With @UNEP, we take a lighter look at the issue of marine litter and ask everyone around the world to break-up with single-use plastics. In the Caribbean, much plastic waste ends up in the ocean, where it harms marine life and can in turn threaten ecosystems, health and the region’s tourism-based economy. For residents of the Caribbean, plastic pollution not only diminishes the natural beauty their nations are known for, but it also compromises the role of the ocean as a provider of food, other resources, and livelihoods. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0FHWQSAP1M&feature=emb_logo
