“When I became a climber, I used to find falling scary, even on sport climbs. It’s like my brain was running a physical engine that only computed what would happen without a rope. It took years to overcome that fear, and sometimes it tries to creep its way back in. Knowing there’s a solid rope between you and oblivion helps alleviate that.”

Climbing is a strange relationship with trust.
You trust your partner.
You trust the bolts.
But mostly—you trust the rope.
Every fall we took in Chattanooga reminded us why ropes matter. Modern dynamic ropes are built to stretch, absorb force, and reduce the shock of a fall, turning what could be catastrophic into just another moment in the day.
That invisible engineering is the difference between fear and freedom on the wall.
Which is why when we test ropes, we don’t hold back.
Because if there’s one thing climbers know…
it’s that the rope is the last word.
