We’ve been limiting our cocktail intake this month and instead celebrating Damp January with Irish coffee—which is basically just coffee, which is basically breakfast, and everyone knows that breakfast is the most important meal of the day 😇
Here’s what you need for this treat:
5 ounces freshly brewed hot coffee
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1½ ounces heavy (whipping) cream
1 ounce whiskey
Pour the coffee, brown sugar, cream, and whiskey into a mug and stir to combine.

Today, we honor the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., his work, and his legacy—to keep fighting in the pursuit of equality and justice for all.
From our book, The ABCs of Black History by Rio Cortez: “In the 1950s, as Black people continued to fight to be fully recognized as human beings, church leaders came together to do their part. They chose Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. (1929-1968), a young minister at Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama, as their spokesperson. Reverend King went on to become a powerful voice in the fight for civil rights.”
We remember his words and reflect upon their meaning: “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.”
