General information
The G.H.O.S.T. Project is a non-profit organization geared toward providing both support and empowerment to members of the transgender community who are either struggling with or have overcome gender identity-related issues. The acronym G.H.O.S.T. stands for Guiding and Helping Others Survive the Transition. This philanthropy based organization is own and operated by three urban transgender women born and raised in a homophobic southern society design to both subjugate and oppress their gender-related issues. To combat the self-hate and insecurities place upon them and their community, these organizers host quarterly events that uplift and empower the transgender and gender non-conforming community. GHOST Project event attendees have an opportunity to receive clothing, grooming, HIV testing and counseling, Prep information, metro cards, job search information and assistance, trans health information, and much more. It is our goal to provide trans and gender non-conforming individuals support and guidance throughout their transition process while both educating and empowering them. We, at The G.H.O.S.T. Project, set out to offer our community a safe and non-judgmental place to come and share their experiences with others. Through our outreach efforts, we anticipate the creation of a safer community for transgender and gender non-conforming individuals.

International Transgender Day of Visibility is an annual holiday occurring on March 31st and dedicated to celebrating the visibility of individuals of trans and non-binary experience while simultaneously bringing awareness to the discrimination faced by TGNC individuals worldwide. Today, we remember those we’ve lost in the fight against AIDS. Over 40 years of community and keeping each other safe, we honor activists such as Peter Staley, Magic Johnson, Phil Wilson, Elizabeth Glaser, Cecilia Chung, and many many more that got us to where we are to combat this ongoing epidemic. But our fight isn’t over. Here in Central Brooklyn, we have one of the highest rates of new HIV cases in NYS. We need to end the stigma. We need to have more conversations about PrEP and PEP. We need to talk about safe s*x and normalize it. We need to protect s*x workers.
Here at the Pride Center, we host educational s*x workshops with Navigayte 2.0 Brooklynbrklyn, have conversations with our community about PrEP and PEP with NyTrans Advocacyacygroup & Brooklyn GHOST Projectnghostproject, do HIV testing, are working on getting at-home HIV testing kits, and will keep doing more until we end this epidemic.

A few months ago I had the opportunity to interview Latravious Collins of the Brooklyn GHOST Project during the NYC Black Pride awards ceremony. This was the last event that I was able to be in person with her. I am gonna miss my sister so much. Heaven couldn't wait for you, God said take your rest.

As a proud Black and Trans activist, LaTravious Collins refused to wait for anyone’s permission to fight back. Armed with the plight of experience, she was a self-proclaimed warrior for an underserved community facing what can often seem like an impossible fate. A mother to the Trans and Gender Non Conforming (TGNC) community in Brooklyn, NY, she set out to provide safe healing spaces where community members can openly express themselves without judgment. Mother LaTravious fed hundreds, inspired thousands, and impacted countless lives. Through her many years of devoted mentorship, activism, and leadership, Mother LaTravious helped the TGNC community heal from traumas and rise above adversity, to thrive – individually and as a community. Mother LaTravious’s impact will be felt for generations of trans people to come.

Yesterday was one of the hardest days Iv ever had to face ….Loosing Latravious Collins someone so close and dear..who played such a influential part in everything Iv been able to do in the pass 7 years … This goes crazy … all she wanted was to see us grow and be the amazing ppl who she knew we were before we even knew we were … This is very hard for us as a family …and we appreciate everyone in the community who loved my boss/mentor/mother … please keep us in your prayers because we definitely need it
