The voices of Black filmmakers in Canada are becoming increasingly important in the collective narrative of Afro-centric storytelling. 🎥

ADIFF DC 2025 is proud to showcase two powerful films highlighting the rich landscape of Afrocentric filmmaking in Canada.

✨ The Village Keeper – Set in Toronto
✨ The Last Meal – Set in Montreal and Haiti

These films, both directed by talented women filmmakers, tell compelling stories of love, family values, and hope in the face of life's challenges.

Don’t miss these unforgettable titles.

Slowly but surely we are getting there. Don't miss Sugar Island from the Dominican Republic, this is a film telling a remarkable story of immigration, racial conflict, labor struggle in the sugar plantation and cultural resistance in a country with a difficult racial history. www.nyadiff.org

It does not take much to realized that the realities and concerns of African and African Diaspora peoples are not front and center of the world narrative.
ADIFF has the mission of pushing the narrative of African and African Diaspora peoples. This perspective brings a great diversity of stories into the festival's editorial line. We realized very early in our career that such an approach is not very popular as festivals in the USA in particular tend to favor programming that is commercially viable (whatever it means for programmers) in their view.
Nevertheless, ADIFF has experienced the support of audiences in different cities of the world in its 33 years of work as the festival component of the ArtMattan Productions operations.

African writers have made their mark on the world stage by winning the Nobel Prize in Literature.
Notable names include Nadine Gordimer (South Africa), Naguib Mahfouz (Egypt), and Wole Soyinka (Nigeria). These writers have produced profoundly African bodies of work, offering deep insight into their cultures and societies.

ADIFF-DC 2025 is proud to feature The Man Died, directed by Awam Amkpa. Inspired by Wole Soyinka’s powerful memoir, this film speaks of revolution, the power of truth, and the urgency of political engagement.

We rarely hear about the African Diaspora in India. Rhythm of Dammam is the first fiction film to explore this community. The filmmaker set out to create a work that goes beyond museum exhibitions and anthropological studies, focusing instead on the everyday lives of this group in India.

Rhythm of Dammam is the Closing Night film of ADIFF DC on August 3. The filmmaker will be in attendance.

The African Diaspora International Film Festival

Our interaction with filmmakers and producers helped us understand that for many of them, a film was the materialization of a need to tell a story. We thought we could help. The editorial line of the African Diaspora International Film Festival reflects the richness and diversity of the life experience of people of color all over the world.

The film scene has tremendously changed since 1993. However, the need to tell a story to the world remains. As we look at films like The Journey of the Lion, Stand Down Soldier, The Tracker, The Citizen, Otomo, Sins of the Flesh, Rosa Chumbe, Scheherazade, Tell Me A Story, White Lies,La Playa D.C., Tango Negro: The African Roots of Tango, Goodbye Momo/A Dios Momo, Mama Africa: Miriam Makeba, Gurumbe: Afro-Andalousian Memories and many more, we realized these are stories that have something unique to tell. We are still loyal to our editorial line and the pursuit of our dream of exposing those stories to the world. The readings are multiple in many of these titles. Therefore, the viewing is rich, revealing and thought provoking. Check www.AfricanDiasporaDVD.com or on Amazon amzn.to/2tGxkBz to discover some of the titles mentioned above. All titles are #FREE for #PrimeMembers
