“What would you do if you had one year to live?”

When Jackie’s therapist asked her that question… everything changed.

After years in journalism, burnout had become impossible to ignore. The pressure. The grind. The constant pushing through exhaustion while quietly losing herself in the process.

And when asked what she’d do if time suddenly felt limited… Jackie didn’t hesitate.

She left journalism.
Moved to France.
And enrolled in pastry school.

This conversation isn’t just about changing careers. It’s about listening to yourself before your body, mind, or soul forces you to.

If you’ve ever wondered whether the life you built still fits who you are becoming… this episode will hit home.

I had the most powerful conversation with Jackie Davalos — a former Bloomberg TV and digital reporter who made a life-changing pivot into pastry school in France.

Her story isn’t really about a dramatic career switch. It’s about burnout, intuition, and what happens when you stop ignoring the quiet voice inside you.

Jackie spent years pushing through toxic environments and exhaustion in journalism, believing she just had to “keep going.” Until a therapist asked her:

“If you had one year to live, what would you do?”

That question changed everything.

She left her career and enrolled in pastry school — not because it was impulsive, but because she knew waiting might mean never doing it at all.

This episode is about choosing yourself before life forces you to.

If you’ve ever felt stuck, burned out, or unsure of your path, I think this one will stay with you.

One of the most beautiful parts of this conversation with Amanda Yoa was hearing about the unexpected impact her “Pam from Port Richmond” videos have had on people.

Amanda shares how followers sometimes reach out to tell her that her videos remind them of an aunt, grandmother, mom, or loved one they miss deeply… and somehow, through humor, her character fills a little piece of that void for them.

She has always said she wanted to impact people.

And one day, after receiving one of those messages, a friend looked at her and said:
“This is how you’re meant to help people.” ❤️

This may be one of the most relatable moments from the entire podcast

Somewhere in the middle of recording, Amanda Yoa and I completely lose our train of thought… and then attempt to find it again by throwing random single words at each other until something lands.

The fact that my editor brain got to flip the camera back and forth during the chaos makes this clip even funnier to me.

And somehow… eventually… we got back on track. Barely. ✈️

Behind the comedy, the characters, and the laughs… is one of the best souls I’ve ever met.

Amanda Yoa has been supporting me since day one of this podcast journey — before I fully believed in myself.

In this clip, she shares one of the best pieces of advice she’s ever given me… and honestly, it says everything about the kind of friend she is.

Women supporting women matters. Encouraging people matters. Believing in someone before they fully see it for themselves matters.

And I’ll always be thankful for that. ❤️

Sometimes the conversations we need most happen when we stop trying so hard to “perform.”

This episode of Unscripted Turbulence with Amanda Yoa took months to make happen… and somehow ended up feeling less like a podcast and more like one of our typical phone calls.

Amanda was actually the FIRST podcaster I ever met when I started navigating life outside of TV news — and honestly, she helped give me the confidence to stop overthinking and just DO MY THING.

Most people know her from comedy and her hilarious character “Pam from Port Richmond,” but there’s a deeper story underneath the humor… and you get to see that side of her here.

And somewhere in the middle of all the laughs, things got real. Really real.

This conversation became a reminder that even when it looks like someone has it all together… they might still be struggling, questioning, comparing, overthinking, and trying to land the plane emotionally. I know I am sometimes.

Amanda has become one of my “angel people” — someone who unknowingly entered my life at exactly the right time.

Fasten your seatbelts for this one. It’s funny, heartfelt, vulnerable, chaotic in the best way… and one of my favorite conversations yet.

What started as an opportunity through Amazon’s Delivery Service Partner program became something much bigger: the chance to create opportunities for others.

In this clip, Juan talks about building a company that gives people—especially minorities and those often overlooked—a real shot at something better.

Not just a paycheck.
A path forward.

One of the things that stayed with me most from this conversation is how deeply Juan understands what it means to simply need someone to believe in you.

And now, he gets to be that person for others.

One of the most powerful things about Juan’s story?

He never forgot what it feels like to simply need a chance.

In this clip, he talks about working with people who may have been overlooked elsewhere… people others underestimated or never gave a real opportunity to.

And yet, when someone finally believes in them?
They rise.

Juan says some of the hardest-working, most loyal people he’s ever worked with are the ones corporate America may have passed over.

That’s the difference when someone leads with empathy instead of ego.

Sometimes people don’t need to be “fixed.”
Sometimes they just need a shot.

Funny how some of the worst bosses end up teaching us the most.

In this clip, Juan and I talk about bad bosses… the kind that make you feel small, unseen, or unmotivated.

And maybe that’s exactly why he leads so differently now.

As a business owner, Juan talks about motivating his team, showing up for people, and creating the kind of workplace where employees actually feel valued.

Because when you know what bad leadership feels like… you never want to become it.

Juan named his company as a nod to where he and his wife come from: Colombia and Puerto Rico. 🇨🇴🇵🇷

But this moment became about something even bigger… our parents, our roots, and the sacrifices made before us.

In this clip, Juan reflects on what it means to carry that legacy forward—not just by building a business, but by creating opportunities for others along the way.

Stories like this are why I love doing this podcast. ❤️
