WELCOME: Join us in welcoming Carl Sundemo to the Epoch family! 👏

Carl Sundemo's work has been called ”stupid ideas presented in a serious way,” and over the years he has built an oppressive interest for how crafted film worlds can be used in unusual ways. His films often play with known genres and troupes in advertising and other narratives, to great comedic effect.

As an ad school graduate from Sweden, Carl jumped straight into directing commercials and his interest for story development has since placed him on the board of the Screenwriter Program at the Higher Vocational Education in Sweden.

Over the course of his career, he has worked with agencies such as Wieden+Kennedy, CALLEN, CP+B, Virtue, Carmichael Lynch, Social Club Paris, FCB, Saatchi&Saatchi, SMFB and BBDO. Hopefully he hasn’t damaged the reputation of too many brands he’s worked with, such as Liquid Death, Betty Crocker, Bush’s Baked Beans, LG, KIA, Milka and Comedy Central to name a few.

BEHIND THE SCENES: “Somewhere With No Bridges” Directed by Charles Frank (@charles_frank) of @voyager.tv

In the latest installment of our “Somewhere With No Bridges” behind-the-scenes series, we’re featuring sound designer & mixer, @calvin__pia , who created the haunting, nostalgic, and heartfelt sonic landscape of the film. Here's one of his favorite motifs in his beautiful sound design work:

"My favorite sound in the film is one you hear very subtly throughout— a distant metallic bell atop a buoy offshore. We hear it at the beginning as we establish the island, at the end when we see the lighthouse, and during the scene where Ben recounts the day of his father’s passing. I was able to source a bell/chime sound that was perfectly native to Martha’s Vineyard, which was satisfying and also lucky because unfortunately I wasn’t able to make it to the island to capture my own field recordings (always my preference). Symbolically, the sound came to represent Richie’s spirit— ringing offshore where he left us, dancing with the waves, reminding us he’s still here. And as countless vivid stories of Richie’s incredible life pour out of the hearts of his beloved friends and family, it becomes obvious that his spirit never truly left. As Ben says so beautifully, 'When we’re gone— dust, returned to the carbon cycle— it’s the memories that remain.' What a poignant reminder, and one I will never tire of hearing."
