Hannah Welever, a Chicago-based DP, filmed this video for online food delivery company Grubhub. It tells the story of several female restaurant entrepreneurs and the challenges they face in the industry. One of them is Hema Potla, an Indian immigrant to the United States who opened Hema’s Kitchen. ⁣

“She’s a woman entrepreneur, a hard-working person who has come up in her life,” her daughter Pam Potla is quoted as saying in the video. “When she started the restaurant, people did say that she’s going to close within six months. Now, they respect her.”⁣

In 2021, Nike partnered with Highlighther as part of its “We Play Real” campaign to show its firm stance in elevating the next generation of black women. ⁣

In the video, #HighlightHER’s Ari Chambers asks the WNBA’s A'ja Wilson what the Nike campaign means to her. “I know how it feels as a black woman to constantly be swept underneath the rug, always being overlooked. But then you have things like this, and with a huge company and a platform like Nike really taking time out to shine that light on black women because we need it. We need it just like everyone else.”⁣

Our BNP Paribas Celebrates International Women’s Day – North America

#BNPParibas, a French international banking group, approached Storyhunter freelancer Eric Laplante to film an employee video celebrating #InternationalWomensDay. In the three-minute piece, female employees in North America reflect on and share their proudest achievements, ones that have empowered them to be the change they want to see in the world. ⁣

BNP wanted a behind-the-scenes production look, Laplante told us. They were looking for “a vibe that reflected a corporate environment but still felt intimate,” he said. Laplante said the bank went on to create similar videos at other BNP locations worldwide based on the success of this shoot. ⁣

#Storyhunter freelancer Carlos Cuervo directed and filmed this story for Harley-Davidson as part of their 115th-anniversary celebration.

The documentary follows first-time riders Shea and Madison on a cross-country adventure in the United States. Carlos said he wanted to approach this story as “naturally as possible and highlight the places and moments that made this a memorable experience.”⁣

“It wasn’t until the very end, during the post-production process, that we discovered how impactful this journey was,” he said. “The Harley Davidson subculture is not a cliché. It is a family with many members around the world, which took us in and showed us the importance of a free-spirited and tolerant lifestyle. And that’s what I hope the audience takes away with them.” ⁣

Storyhunter freelancer Chris Cymbalak created one of his best works as a personal project. He shares what inspired him to tell the story:

“Many of us follow a specific Instagram account because we're interested in a particular subject matter. I've always loved photography and enjoy reading the corresponding description within the captions. But what dawned upon me was – what if I could create an actual documentary on an IG photographer I admire?”

Chris told us he’s always been gripped by WW2 history, Communism, architecture, photography, and “general documentation of change." He decided to film an #Instagram photographer in Warsaw, Poland who focuses on buildings and their stories.

“I loved how he paid close attention to staircases, doors, balconies, windows, shapes, styles and – how through his IG account – he was essentially 'preserving' all of this through his images – providing 'life' through documentation.”
