Born and raised in New Jersey, Danielle lived in Manhattan and shared her life with the people she loved. She was a competitive rower in college and later ran the New York City Marathon in 1999. In 2000, she earned her master’s degree in business administration while working as a vice president at Cantor Fitzgerald. On September 11, 2001, Danielle was working in her office on the 104th floor of the North Tower.

Today, on what would have been Danielle’s 55th birthday, a white rose was placed beside her name at the National September 11 Memorial. That simple gesture carries profound meaning, honoring a life filled with achievement, relationships, determination, and promise.

Danielle should have had the opportunity to celebrate this birthday surrounded by family and friends, reflecting on all the years still ahead. Instead, her life became part of the heartbreaking history of September 11. Today, we remember Danielle with love, dignity, and respect. Maria devoted 31 years of dedicated service to her department and to the people she served. Her long career reflected a commitment to helping others, and her passing is a painful reminder that the health consequences of September 11 continued to affect first responders and others long after that day.

A viewing for EMT Rueda will be held on Friday, October 9, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Fort Totten, Building 319, Murray Avenue, Bayside, New York 11359. The service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the same location. Family, friends, colleagues, and members of the community will have an opportunity to gather and honor her life and years of service.

Maria V. Rueda’s dedication and sacrifice will remain part of the lasting legacy of those who served in the aftermath of the World Trade Center attacks. We extend our deepest condolences to her loved ones, fellow EMTs, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside her. Born in the Bronx, Terence lived in Manhattan with his wife and dedicated 20 years of his life to the New York City Fire Department. As a captain with FDNY Rescue Company 1, he was known affectionately as “Captain Man-Hatton” for his determination to learn the borough’s buildings inside and out. On September 11, 2001, Captain Hatton was last seen on the stairs of the North Tower.

The day after the attacks, Terence’s wife learned that she was pregnant, a heartbreaking reminder of the future that was taken from him and his family. He never had the opportunity to meet his child, but his memory could be carried forward through the stories, love, and memories shared by those who knew him. His dedication to protecting others remains an enduring part of his legacy.

Today, Terence Hatton would have been 67 years old. On his birthday, we remember him not only as a courageous firefighter and captain, but as a husband, a future father, a friend, and a beloved member of his family. 😭😭😭Francis “Frank” DeMartini was the World Trade Center’s construction manager and a man deeply devoted to the buildings and the people who worked inside them. After being hired to assess the damage from the 1993 bombing, Frank grew to love the World Trade Center and remained with the Port Authority, overseeing maintenance, planning, and modifications. On the morning of September 11, 2001, Frank was having breakfast with his wife in his office on the 88th floor of the North Tower when American Airlines Flight 11 struck the building.

Frank found an intact stairway and helped his wife reach safety, but he chose to remain behind. Together with his colleague Pablo Ortiz, he spent the next 102 minutes moving through accessible floors, helping people who were trapped and unable to escape. They refused to leave while others still needed assistance, and their efforts are credited with helping save dozens of lives.

Frank’s last known location was the 78th-floor Sky Lobby, where he used his radio to report dangerous conditions involving the express elevators and requested that structural engineers inspect the exposed steel. Those who heard his transmissions remembered his calm and composed manner amid unimaginable danger. Frank DeMartini gave his final moments to helping others. His courage, compassion, and dedication remain an enduring part of the story of September 11. 🕯️🇺🇸 Never Forgotten.

😭😭😭Rodney Dickens was only 11 years old when he boarded American Airlines Flight 77 at Dulles International Airport on September 11, 2001. It was his first time flying, and he was excited about traveling to California for a National Geographic-sponsored educational trip to the Channel Islands. Rodney was a sixth-grade student from Washington, D.C., who consistently made the honor roll. He loved reading, playing computer games, spending time with his siblings, and watching professional wrestling.

Rodney traveled with fellow students Asia Cottom and Bernard Brown II, along with their teachers and National Geographic staff. The young students were looking forward to exploring, hiking, and learning about marine science in California. Instead, their journey was tragically interrupted when Flight 77 was hijacked and crashed into the Pentagon at 9:37 a.m. Everyone aboard the aircraft was killed.

Rodney’s life was far more than the tragedy that ended it. He was a beloved son, brother, student, and child with dreams and a future that should have continued. His family remembered his love of wrestling, his curiosity, and his excitement about his first airplane journey. Today, Rodney Dickens is remembered at the National 9/11 Pentagon Memorial alongside the other victims of Flight 77. His name remains a reminder of a young life filled with promise, forever remembered. 🖤💔🕯️

😭😭😭Glen Pettit was a 30-year NYPD officer assigned to the department’s Video Production Unit, and on September 11, 2001, he was tasked with documenting the rescue effort. As the attacks unfolded, Pettit moved closer to the World Trade Center with his camera, determined to record what was happening. Near the complex, journalist Jack Taliercio encountered Pettit and began following him. Pettit stopped and warned Taliercio to move away from the towers. Taliercio later said that warning saved his life.

The last known footage of Pettit shows him carrying his camera into the South Tower with members of Ladder 35 shortly before the tower collapsed at 9:59 a.m. What Pettit recorded inside the building has never become publicly available. His body was recovered approximately three months later, but his camera and the footage he captured were not returned to his family.

Today, Glen Pettit’s memory is honored at the corner of East 20th Street and Second Avenue in Manhattan, which bears his name. Near the police academy where he once created training films for new officers, the memorial stands as a reminder of his dedication, courage, and sacrifice on September 11, 2001. 🖤💔🕯️
