Netflix | The Crown Motion Billboard

Marking our third project with @netflixus, Thornberg & Forester was selected as the creative agency partner to conceive and produce the motion billboard for the Netflix Original Series, @TheCrownNetflix. The American-British drama is a biographical story about the reign of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom. The Crown received three Golden Globe nominations and won for Best Television Series - Drama and Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Drama. Amazingly, The Crown is being billed as the most expensive television series ever produced, with a budget of $130M.

Meaning of Lifely

Our great friends at Leijas called upon us to develop, design and produce a series of three spots to announce the launch of Lifely by Prudential. The purpose of the program is simple; to make the purchase of life insurance easier.

In addition to naming and branding the program, Leijas furnished T&F with three scripts and creative kernels, from which we created full storyboards with transition ideas and cut them to scratch VO. From there we moved on to our design phase, crafting look frames and illustrating hundreds of assets. Our animation team blocked out camera moves and seamlessly integrated each scene, providing a most-fluid, authentic and on-brand storytelling technique.

Special thanks to HAUS for music composition and to Nylon Studios for sound design and mix.

This is the first spot, titled “Meaning of Lifely.”

Introduction to Chain

Chain is a venture-backed software company based in San Francisco that builds blockchain technology. The great folks of Chain contacted Thornberg & Forester to write, design and produce an explainer film to educate a business focused audience on blockchain, its use and how it can help their organization build better financial products and services. In addition to demystifying what blockchain is and communicating it’s multiple benefits and efficiencies, our task was to also demonstrate Chain’s position as a leader and to drive viewers to action. ��

Adam Carolla and Friends Build Stuff Live Spot

Our friends at Spike tapped us to design two launch spots to announce a fun, new late night series: Adam Carolla and Friends Build Stuff Live. Fusing late night with DIY, Adam Carolla takes on building projects with celebrity friends in need of his carpentry expertise.

We presented a diverse range of creative, ultimately landing on bold typography and text windows that carry viewers through Mr. Carolla’s message. We built an intuitive package of elements and engineered a complex script to maintain text justification and leading for future guest name IDs. We provided guidance for the shoot of Mr. Carolla to capture what we needed to bring our design to life and crafted a detailed storyboard for a live-action driven spot.

Freeform Happy Hour

Our friends at Freeform called upon us to design the identity, on-air package and social elements to promote their new, super-fun programming comedy block, Freeform Happy Hour. Front-running shows Baby Daddy, Young & Hungry and the new Freeform original series, The Twins: Happily Ever After? were to be showcased and given a unified graphic voice. We started with a rigorous logo exploration and presented a host of fleshed out creative solutions for graphic system packaging. Upon selection of the winning treatment, we provided creative direction for a shoot to help capture the spirit of our shared vision. Additionally, we wrote and produced a generous helping of content for Freeform social media channels.

Shortly after Thornberg & Forester wrapped the identity, promo package and show package for A&E’s new documentary series LIVE PD, we were asked to design and produce a haunting promo to announce the fifth and final season of the captivating A&E series Bates Motel. The A&E team locked off their cameras to shoot arresting imagery upon which we designed title cards, an endpage and sting. We were then asked to bring life (and death) to another spot. To top things off, we produced graphics to announce that Bates Motel is the People’s Choice for favorite cable drama, favorite cable actress, Vera Farmiga and favorite cable actor, Freddie Highmore.

Life Below Zero: The Thaw Promo Package

Our great friends at the National Geographic Channel reached out to T&F to design the look and promo package to announce the eighth season of the documentary television series Life Below Zero: The Thaw. Our design process led us to place soil, stones, leaves, rocks and grass between multiple panes of ice. We heated the setups while documenting the beauty of their actual thaw, in-camera. We built a full system of live-action elements to fill out the provided cut.

For Every Child, The Chance To Play*

*These are the words written by our friends at UNICEF (The United Nations Children’s Fund) that frame this campaign. Thornberg & Forester had the pleasure of meeting with UNICEF to learn about a :60 film they were looking to have produced in two languages, to be done and delivered, in only three days. The film would celebrate UNICEF’s 10-year [and growing] partnership with FC Barcelona and would be distributed to all UNICEF social media channels.

UNICEF conceived the amazing idea to film a Penalty Kick shootout between FCB and the Spanish National Blind Football team…but by leveling the playing field. FCB’s Lionel Messi, Ivan Rakitić, Sergi Roberto, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Masip were blindfolded and asked to proceed. Once the outcome is established, the teams share deep, mutual respect. The film then transitions to a sequence of disabled children who face similar challenges in their young lives. UNICEF provided a strong base edit for T&F to refine, grade, design and finish.

Yesterday, we were honored to attend a very special event at the United Nations Headquarters. The president of FC Barcelona, Josep Maria Bartomeu, was one of several pivotal figures in attendance. He talked about the “importance of inclusion, not exclusion”, of children with disabilities. He went on to say, “Sports unite. They are a vehicle for human development”. Shortly thereafter, Mr. Bartomeu introduced retired FCB superstar Ronaldinho and mentioned he “…brought back the smile to the FCB”. Ronaldinho has taken on a truly inspired leadership role to advocate for disabled children by helping them grow and thrive through sport.

It was at this event where the film premiered and where we learned that it was so well received. It has been included in the broadcast package to all major broadcasters of the the Paralympics, played in stadiums on the giant screens during the Games and from this morning, shared across the major social media platforms of UNICEF, FCB and the International Paralympic Committee.

A special thank you to UNICEF, FCB and to our wonderful friends at Nylon Studios for composing a rich, original score for this piece.
