Here's a treat for anybody as eager as I am to be transported back to the heady days of New York in the 1960s and '70s. Juan Logan's artworks address subjects relevant to the American experience as a whole. At once abstract and representational, his paintings, drawings, sculptures, installations, prints and videos address the interconnections of race, place, and power. They make visible how hierarchical relations and social stereotypes shape individuals, institutions, and the material and mental landscapes of contemporary life.

Logan's honors include awards and fellowships from the John Michael Kohler Arts Center, the North Carolina Arts Council, the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, the Rutgers Center for Innovative Print and Paper, and the Phillip Morris Companies.

'Young, Fabulous and Female Artists'
The work of three black women were featured at The Root's latest networking event on Aug. 22 at New York City's Open House Gallery : http://www.theroot.com/multimedia/art-young-fabulous-and-female

It wasn't just about networking and listening to successful black women tell their stories -- although there was a lot of that. Guests were also provided the the opportunity to check out the art of amazing black female artists, including Lorna Simpson, Alison Saar and Fatimah Tuggar (Courtesy Diane Villani Editions, New York)
