Columbia Publishing Course A Professional Experience in the Business of Publishing
(2)

The Publishing Course provides an intensive introduction to all aspects of book and magazine publishing as well as digital media, from evaluations of original manuscripts to the sales and marketing of finished products. Students learn directly from more than 100 leaders in the industry in lectures, small seminars, and workshop simulations. Our students take part in a total-immersion program that cannot be duplicated by a series of part-time courses. In the process, students discover a capacity to assimilate and produce more than they ever imagined possible.

Also very excited that #CPC alum and lecturer Jordan Pavlin has been promoted to senior VP and editorial director of Alfred A. Knopf. Another feather in the cap of her stunning career!

Sustainable Fashion Is More Than Just Sack Dresses

Looking for something to read this weekend? Try the just-published HOW TO BREAK UP WITH FAST FASHION by Lauren Bravo. Our #CPC UK students got to read it in advance to prepare for a publicity lecture from PR expert Jessica Farrugia Sharples. We all loved it! Important, engaging, and highly relatable–all markers of a great book. Preview in the link below!

While for a long time the porridgey smock dress reigned supreme, the last few years have brought with it a boom in genuinely stylish, inventive labels doing their bit to bridge the gap between fast fashion’s sugar rush and ethical fashion’s slow-release energy.

An Instant Classic About Learning Ancient Greek

As usual, The New Yorker Comma Queen Mary Norris has us hankering to learn Greek. Read her review of "The Ingenious Language: Nine Epic Reasons to Love Greek," published by our beloved Europa Editions, to see why learning this language is now our New Year's resolution. #greektome #cpcspeaker

With “La Lingua Geniale,” Andrea Marcolongo did something I had very much wanted to do: she wrote about classical Greek while young and freshly enamored of the beauty, economy, and subtlety of the language.

Emmanuel Carrère’s Disconcertingly Personal and Utterly Gripping Prose

It's always amazing to have living legend Robert Gottlieb speak at the course every summer–but we need something to tide us over in the off season. His recent musings on Emmanuel Carrère's new essay collection for The New York Times Book Review do just that.

“97,196 Words,” a new collection of essays by the celebrated French author, encapsulates his novel approach to nonfiction.

The New York Times Book Review has officially revealed its top 10 books of 2019! If you can't find us during Thanksgiving prep, it's probably because we're curled up near the fire reading one of these. Perhaps it's monumentally unhelpful, but we'll risk it for being well-read.

Publishing takes us all over the place—and since I graduated CPC in 2011 I've had the honor of learning about all the ways storytelling can impact our lives. That's why I'm so excited to share a new offering Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health—a 5-day immersion called #NarrativeHealing. Through mindful movement, daily writing workshops, meditation, and group discussion on spirituality, neuroscience, literature, and more, we unlock the power of sharing our voices in real time. It's a perfect opportunity for caregivers and anyone working with trauma, for themselves or others. Check it out today! https://kripalu.org/presenters-programs/narrative-healing-unlock-power-storytelling?fbclid=IwAR0I1iXuqWJAuLdJymiaFnvt-4-TTLkC69gUJxLEc6CH_PX1Z4oe99ybxuM
If anyone is a fan of Hank Green, or looking to do some publishing-related networking, swing by this free event! There'll be drinks, snacks, and a discussion between Hank Green and Kristen Sieh.
