Death Notice of Declan O'Byrne

It is with much sorrow that we share news of the passing of our own Declan O’Byrne. Declan has been an incredibly important part of our Ceol na nGael family for many decades, calling in each week at 2 pm to keep us all up-to-date with the goings on back “home” in Ireland. With his well curated reports, caring manner, and reassuring voice we listened intently as he connected us every Sunday with the island and the people from where we and our families came. Moving forward there will be a huge hole in our hearts come 2 pm on Ceol na nGael.
Everyone here at WFUV sends our love and condolences to Declan’s family in Dublin, and also to his good friend, and coworker, Brendan Tier, who shared the sad news with us at the top of the show. It’s impossible to express how much Declan will be missed by all of us.

As a show that is traditionally produced, hosted, and assisted by more women than men, this is an interesting post from Karan Casey about research being done as part of the FairPlé movement regarding women in the traditional music world. Take a look and, if you have a story, please contribute!

Dr. Úna Monaghan is carrying out a research project on Gender and Irish Traditional Music. We have found that real experiences have the power to explain the issues effectively and we want to hear about yours. Please complete this 10 minute survey so we can hear your voice.
