The Captain 🧡💙 Some of my favorite photos I’ve taken of him over the years, plus a few videos of iconic moments, from his days as a player (2004–2018) to now.
I’m writing this as I stand on line outside , where the are retiring David Wright’s number 5 today.
It’s hard to put into words what David Wright’s career has meant to me as a Mets fan. He lived the dream—growing up a Mets fan himself, getting drafted by the team, and spending his entire baseball career with the organization he loved. And we, as fans, gave all that love right back to him… and then some.
There was nothing quite like watching him and play side by side. Their joy for the game only made me love it more, which I didn’t even think was possible. I always feel incredibly lucky to be a Mets fan, and even luckier that I got to watch those two play together.
So many of my core memories are thanks to #5, most of which I was lucky enough to experience in person, and a few of which are featured here:
⚾ Making Shea rock like only Shea could
⚾ His at-bat during the final game there (slide 10)
⚾ Hitting the first home run at Citi Field
⚾ Being an All-Star for the Citi Field All-Star Game in 2013 (slide 11)
⚾ Hitting a home run during the World Series (slide 12)
⚾ Playing his final homestand as a Met (slide 13)
⚾ Getting announced in the lineup for the final time (slide 14)
⚾ Joining an elite club of Mets with retired numbers (slide 15)
⚾ And, of course, that signature tongue-out swing 😂 (final slide)
So, in short… thank you, David Wright. Forever a Met, and forever number 5. 🧡💙
