While soaking one of my girls yesterday for p**py butt, I noticed a weird spot on her face. 🐓 We ended up removing it with tweezers and filled the hole with Vaseline afterward. Ignore the sand in the picture — she tried to eat it because apparently that seemed like a good idea. Has anyone seen something like this before? She’s under a year old.

This stray kitten showed up over the winter and somehow worked his way right into the family. 🐾♥️ He made friends with our four girls, snuggles with them every night, and eats every meal right alongside them. He even brought them a mouse one day like he was paying rent. 🤣

Auction peacocks came with a little extra surprise I definitely did not ask for. 🦚🤢 I picked up two over the weekend, dusted them with permethrin, and have them quarantined far away from our chickens. I found this louse already dead in some down feathers on the floor, so fingers crossed the treatment is doing its job. Does anyone know what type of louse this looks like, how often I should retreat them, and how long it usually takes to fully get rid of them?

Well, that was awkward. 😂 My neighbor down the road rang my doorbell and asked for a dozen eggs. I went out, collected them fresh from the coop, and handed them to him. He thanked me, got back in his car, and just left. Sir… did we forget the paying part? 🥚💸 I do have an actual egg business, and I sell around three dozen eggs a day for $5 each. That is cheaper than the grocery store, but feeding 60 chickens definitely is not free. I’m honestly confused about why he thought this was some kind of free egg pickup spot, especially when the sign clearly says $5. Super strange. 🐓😅

Is it normal for a 4–5 month old rooster to still try sitting under his mom at night? 🐓😂 Every time I close the coop door, he’s in some weird position trying to squeeze himself under her like he’s still a tiny chick. Sometimes he’s under her crop, sometimes near her bum, and tonight’s photo pretty much says it all. Is this normal, or what exactly is this little guy doing? 🤨🐔

This is my neighbor’s chicken just casually running around the neighborhood and looking in people’s windows like she owns the place 🤣🐓 Apparently when the owner’s kids get home from school, they come get her so they can play. She’s basically a neighborhood celebrity at this point!

Another night, another raccoon trying to test the chicken security system 🦝😂. We have a serious raccoon problem here, and I catch about 5–6 a week inside the chicken yard even with a 12-foot fence buried 1 foot underground. This one tried to get into the chickens last night, chewed through the baling wire holding the trap to the back fence, then tried to escape over the wooden fence up front. Instead, he got the trap hung up and the roosters made sure to announce his location loud and clear 🐓📢
He has since been dispatched. Buh bye 👋🏼
All chickens are accounted for and safe 🙌🏼🐔

Chicken owner problem here 🐔😬. Our hens sleep in their coop at night, but they free-range the backyard during the day. For whatever reason, they love walking onto the cement back porch and leaving little “gifts” behind. We try to wash the patio off daily, but it’s starting to smell terrible when we step outside — almost like an outhouse by the back door 🤢. I’ve tried vinegar, power washing, and even Odor Ban, but I’m still getting that odor. Has anyone dealt with this before, and what actually worked for you? Suggestions would be appreciated! TIA ~ Joan
