So I got my autistic young adult son 10 emotional support chicks. Which turned into 14 two weeks later. The same week we threw in 2 male turkey chicks and 1 female. So it turns out that 8 of the chicks are roosters and 6 are hens. It’s been 7 months. Everyone gets along very well (with a few occasional tiffs). There is A LOT of crowing lol but we’re in a very rural area and no regulations to worry about. What are the chances that everyone just…continues on with their happy bird lives despite the s*x ratio? My son is not about to give up his babies and my husband says no more birds (he is, sadly, not a fan).

A couple months ago this young lady popped up. I refused to acknowledge her, interact or anything with her because I did not want to house or have an outside cat but I noticed for some reason she was staying around and also noticed she hanging near the chicken coop a lot which is the same time when I’ve noticed I have mice which isn’t surprising when raising chickens. So she had a little food source and noticed less and less mouse activity which I guess I’m kind of glad she came around because I absolutely wouldn’t want to put any type of poison because I have dogs and wouldn’t want my chickens to also get into it so this wonderful cat now has a home and she is extremely friendly and cuddly.

Has anyone ever had a feral kitten 🐈‍⬛ try to live with your free range chickens? There is a kitten literally roosting in the coop at night with my chickens and hanging out with my flock all day.

On the positive side when the kitty gets older he can protect my chickens? And there are mice in my chicken coop 🤷🏼‍♀️

It finally happened…. I had a raccoon get into my coop and got one of my hens. She was always so sassy and f***y and I don’t have any rooster so I know she was not letting this dude bother her sisters … she went down with a fight, and I’ve crying since 5am.. this thing was at least 35lbs + , I’m used to small city ones.. besides proofing the coop better is there anything I can use to keep em away? We can’t shoot our guns on my property but we’re planning on at least getting a BB gun today, he will be back he was here yesterday and again early this morning 💔
