Some people don’t just enter our lives. They transform them forever.
This incredible woman changed the entire course of mine.
Liliana was my career counselor during one of the most uncertain chapters of my life. I was lost, trying major after major, watching each one fall flat. Nothing felt right. Nothing clicked. I was exhausted, discouraged, and honestly? Ready to give up on myself.
But Liliana refused to give up on me.
She kept searching, kept believing, kept pushing, even when I couldn’t see what she saw in me. Then one day, she walked into my life with an idea that would change everything:
“I think I got it. Take Introduction to Broadcast Journalism. If you don’t like it, just pass with a C. But I have a feeling about this one.”
That feeling? It was everything.
That class didn’t just click. It ignited something in me I didn’t know existed. Suddenly, TV production wasn’t homework; it was passion. Journalistic writing wasn’t an assignment; it was purpose. My time at BronxNet felt less like training and more like coming home.
I found my calling that day. But I didn’t find it alone.
Liliana saw potential in me when I couldn’t see it in myself. She invested her time, her patience, her unwavering faith in a student who was ready to quit. She didn’t just help me choose a major. She helped me discover who I was meant to become.
Decades have passed. You’re now enjoying a well-deserved retirement, , but my gratitude hasn’t retired with you. It grows stronger every single day I get to do what I love.
Thank you for your patience when I had none for myself.
Thank you for your dedication when I was ready to walk away.
Thank you for seeing me before I could see myself.
To anyone reading this: If you’ve ever had someone believe in you when you stopped believing in yourself, tag them. Tell them. Thank them. These angels walk among us, and they deserve to know the difference they’ve made.
And to every educator, counselor, and mentor out there doing this sacred work, you matter more than you’ll ever know.
Some people don’t just change our path. They become part of our story forever.
