𝗤: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸?

“Okay, that’s explained in the preface of my book, but the short version is this: I realized that I had been successfully building and deploying real-life models. However, I also realized that I wasn't even aware of what I was doing when building models, let alone explaining it to others. To quote myself:

“Yes! A lot! As I mentioned before, I couldn't even properly articulate what I was doing when I built models. Thus, everything was a surprise to me. Imagine you’re a great tennis player who wins constantly — then someone films you and shows, frame by frame, exactly how you play. That’s exactly how I felt: discovering, step by step, what I’d been unconsciously doing for years.”

𝗤: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗮 𝗻𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸?

“Start writing right now. Don't worry about not having a publisher or whether anyone would be interested in your book. The truth is, your book doesn't exist until it's finished. Therefore, my recommendation is to finish your first draft. Once you have it, you will be able to answer all the questions publishers typically ask to determine whether they are interested in your book.

You will be able to answer, "What is your book about?" Can you share the introduction or give us a sample of the first three chapters? Can you provide a brief description of each chapter? Who is your target audience? I don't know if publishers are aware of this, but the truth is that nobody knows the answers to these questions before finishing the first draft of a book. Gee! I couldn't write a summary of my chapters until the book was almost finished!”

“It was definitely not easy. But it's always been a habit of mine to document technical concepts that I learned. I used to do that a lot at work, to put a document together explaining how to do a certain technical process. I believe that habit really helped me in the process of writing the book because it felt more natural.”

𝗤: 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗮𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲?

“Working many years in different large corporations, I've noticed a common pattern: companies expect technical professionals to be increasingly specialized. In that sense, they expect a Data Scientist to develop a machine learning model, and they expect a machine learning engineer or a software engineer to deploy that model, but that model needs to be deployed in the cloud, and they expect that a DevOps engineer will create the infrastructure for that system to run.

So even though all these areas are interconnected and dependent on each other, each of these professionals get so specialized in their own area that they will know how to do their part well, but they will almost never know how to do the work of the others. The book I wrote covers all these areas, from creating the infrastructure to support model deployment, to developing a machine learning model, and deploying it in the cloud.

The book is written by a data scientist, me, for data scientists that want to learn to deploy applications and models, but also to professionals that want to learn data science and model deployment and to software engineers/ML engineers that want to create the infrastructure that hosts these models and apps in the cloud.”
