We have signed copies of “Standing Together” by at booth P8 In fall 1916, journalist, lawyer and activist Inez Milholland embarked on a grueling three-week journey across the American West to campaign for a woman’s right to vote. Michna-Bales re-creates Milholland’s campaign, during which she gave impassioned speeches for women’s suffrage to rapt standing-room audiences. She died a month after her last speech in Los Angeles, where her final public words were, “Mr. President, how long must this go on, no liberty?”

Join us at booth P8 today at 6:00 for a book signing with and his book "The Unchosen Ones," whose subjects are Minnesota 4-H members, each of whom spent a year raising an animal then entered it into a 4-H competition. He first photographed them in 2016; none of the children who sat for him succeeded in winning first prize, despite the obvious care they had given to their animals. Kern's portraits endow these young people with a gravitas beyond their years, revealing self-directed dedication in some, and in others, perhaps, the pressures of traditions imposed upon them.

Come by for a signed copy of THE DEFENDERS by . This Masha Alyokhina and Nadya Tolokonnikova, members of the punk collective P***y Riot. During their infamous protest in 2012 at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow, they railed against the repressive government of Vladimir Putin and his cynical alignment with the Orthodox church. The women were jailed for nearly two years as a result. In the face of punishment for speaking out, Nadya famously said, "You have your brain, your conscience, and your soul. They cannot take that away from you." Masha and Nadya are two of the hundreds of human rights defenders chronicled in this important book.

Signed copies The Defenders: Heroes of the Global Fight for Human Rights by available at our booth next week . This is Evelyn, who was three years old when Platon photographed her in 2014 at an immigrants' rights march in Phoenix. Evelyn's father, Antonio Herrera, had recently been deported for submitting false documentation to his employer. Evelyn did not understand why her dad was taken away, but this young US citizen was marching for her family and families like hers. Evelyn is one of the hundreds of human rights defenders chronicled in this important book.

This is Sondos Shabayek, who was a young journalist covering the 2011 revolution in Egypt that toppled the government of Hosni Mubarak when Platon photographed her. She said at the time, "I want to report, and I want to know what’s happening and to go back and tell people. I started writing stuff and posting them online and having discussions and trying to tell people what is happening in Tahrir.” Sondos confronted her fear in Tahrir Square, the center of the revolution, and found a way to navigate through it. Each day she tested herself by moving closer to the front lines, where the most danger lay. She is one of the many defenders of human rights chronicled in this book.
