SINATRA IN HAWAII 1952 during his very first visit up there. Here you see him interviewed for the school paper at McKinnley High School, Honolulu, Hawaii (April 24-27) During this show at Hawaii were also appearing: Comedian Dick Buckley, The Four Jokers, and dancer Virginia Lee. I wonder if the printed version of that interview still exists somewhere in a shoebox. But I simply love the super relaxed facial expressions on both of them.

OUR LATEST LOCKDOWN ACTIVITY was to sort out that Ultra Lounge series of compilation CDs released by Capitol Records starting in the nineties, featuring music predominantly from the 1950s and 1960s in genres such as exotica, space-age pop, mambo, television theme songs, and lounge in super quality. Many of the volumes have been made available for purchase via digital download only.

Each CD featured detailed liner notes along with two related drink recipes, tips on how to serve drinks to guests, and often photographs of sculptures made out of bartender items and other objects.

To my surprise, they released 43! of them. I gathered both versions, cd's and digital downloads, and the result is that I only miss just one. (samplers not counted) Next case! πŸ˜ŽπŸ€©πŸ˜‰πŸŽ§πŸŽ·πŸ˜

SINATRA'S BIRTH OF THE BLUES (1951) IN STEREO!
Back in 1951 all recordings were still released in mono. But due to new software and Bob Zwolinski who knows how to use it, you can now listen to the same track with it's original voice and instruments in real left and right stereo. Use your headphones to hear the ultimate quality! Enjoy!

http://greatamericansongbook.info/blues.mp3

The separation of the instruments is truly amazing. Take the bass and sax soloist for instance. You gotta consider that this software is in the first state. It's not a complete all in one software package yet. They call it DES; Digital Extracted Stereo…

At the end of the day all 'pop' singers produce an American Songbook album. Though James Taylor is certainly not a jazz singer and extremely behind the beat here and there; we really do love this well-produced album together with John Pizzarelli and Dave O'Donnell. So to make a long story short; one song from this American Standard album is currently promoted every even hour at a quarter to the hour (EST) πŸ™ƒπŸ˜πŸ˜‰πŸ€“πŸ˜…πŸ€ͺ😁

DOING RADIO FOR A WHILE …
About ten years experience on that very moment. It’s taken in a temporary radio studio during an electronics exhibit back in 1982. An old (radio) friend sent me this picture the other day. (TX2RvE) And I’m still producing radio every day. Today we proudly present you an improved radio format in our radio stream. Being one of the cooks, I could tell you about the changes we made into the music recipe for The Great American Songbook Radio Station... But I challenge you to tell us about it! Please write your thoughts here as your comment underneath this post on what exactly has changed from today on. The first person who's giving the right answer will receive a brand-new sealed four cd box A Voice On Air 1935-1955. (Sinatra 100, Sony 2015) for free. πŸ˜Žβ˜•οΈπŸ˜πŸ€“πŸ˜„πŸ˜œ

I'm happy to announce that we finally made our first step into promoting 'Cabaret' singing. That special little segment within the American Songbook, which is, to my opinion, very close to the cradle of it all; Broadway!.

From tomorrow on, October 23, we'll promote the vocal capabilities of singer & actress Jennifer Roberts. She also clearly explains to us all what Cabaret singing really is about, followed by a song from her latest album 'An Evening With'. It can be heard every even hour at 15 minutes to the hour. (EST) Jennifer is accompanied by music director/pianist, Tedd Firth, and Steve Doyle on bass.Tom Hubbard plays Bass on 'The Ballad of the Shape of Things' πŸ˜ŽπŸ™ƒπŸ˜‰πŸ“€πŸ”ˆπŸŽ§πŸŽΌπŸ˜

RenΓ©! With Thanks And Love Anthony!... Promoting artists on our radio station have a double pleasure. It's nice for the listener to hear recent/new renditions of GAS songs and also for the artist him/herself to get worldwide airplay. But it's also nice for us to be able to offer you this variety. Where does this 'promotion work' end without turning you into a fan? To me, this new album of Anthony Strong 'Me And My Radio' did that already months ago. Thanks Anthony! πŸ˜ŽπŸ˜‰πŸ˜πŸ™ƒπŸ˜€

No other country or city beats the number of Japanese and Tokyo listeners ;-) It's 44 in total right now and much more than the average USA listeners itself. However the sad news today is that Café & Bar Albert in Tokyo, named after the middle name of Francis Albert Sinatra, has been closed yesterday. 🧐It ran and owned by my dear Sinatra friend Ruriko Shiozawa and her husband. Ruriko is a steady Great American Songbook Radio Station listener herself and still owns the very best Sinatra fan-shot ever! 😁😎🀩

'Secrets Of The Heart'. That's the title of the latest cd of the Australian singer and pianist Sarah McKenzie. It is currently also promoted on the Great American Songbook Radio Station!.

Lucky for her and well-deserved too, she does a world tour with her trio right now doing concerts and promoting this cd with huge success in Europe, Japan and the US. Susan's vocal jazz repertoire fits 100% into our station's format. She sent her cd before 'Secrets', 'Paris In The Rain' to us with a personal note and a vocal promotion text.

Well, the 'secret of my heart' is that despite a short chat contact this year, she forgot to do same this time.🧐 No hard feelings Sarah, we will always love you!! πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ™ƒπŸ˜ƒ

Hi new FB likers! Due to our extra promotion for our very last birthday celebration by Nancy Valentine from New York City on our internet stream, we got a huge pile of post likes and extra page likes too! Thank you very very much!

We are a small group of volunteers who make this free 24/7 internet stream possible for just a LIMITED group of worldwide listeners. Some think that this just a FB page only. No, it's to promote our Great American Songbook Radio Station stream. In this post, you'll see a real-time screenshot of a random yesterday's (EST time) moment. I have my thoughts on this but please conclude your own conclusion and have a nice musical day!! ;-) πŸ€“πŸ™ƒπŸ“»πŸ˜ŽπŸ˜

Today May 26, as always presented by Nancy Valentine, we celebrate the birthday of Norma Deloris Egstrom known professionally as Peggy Lee. Peggy Lee was an American jazz and popular music singer, songwriter, composer, and actress, in a career spanning six decades.

From her beginning as a vocalist on local radio to singing with Benny Goodman's big band, she forged a sophisticated persona, evolving into a multi-faceted artist and performer. During her career, she wrote music for films, acted, and recorded conceptual record albums that combined poetry and music.

This promo jingle done by Nancy Valentine and a song from Norma Doloris ;-) can be heard all day every 12/15 past the EST hour.

05/21/2019

Presented by Nancy Valentine from New York City, we celebrate the birthday of Thomas Wright "Fats" Waller (May 21, 1904 – December 15, 1943) Fats Waller was an American jazz pianist, organist, composer, violinist, singer, and comedic entertainer. His innovations in the Harlem stride style laid the groundwork for modern jazz piano. His best-known compositions, "Ain't Misbehavin'" and "Honeysuckle Rose", were inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1984 and 1999. Waller copyrighted over 400 songs, many of them co-written with his closest collaborator, Andy Razaf. Razaf described his partner as "the soul of melody... a man who made the piano sing... both big in body and in mind... known for his generosity... a bubbling bundle of joy". It's possible he composed many more popular songs and sold them to other performers when times were tough.

The promo text by Nancy, followed with a song sung or written by Fats Waller, can be heard today every 12/15 minutes past the EST hour

Today May 16, and as always presented by Nancy Valentine, we celebrate the birthday of singer Betty Carter. Betty was born on this day in 1930 as Lillie Mae Jones and sadly left us on September 26, 1998. Betty Carter was an American jazz singer known for her improvisational technique, scatting and other complex musical abilities that demonstrated her vocal talent and imaginative interpretation of lyrics and melodies. Vocalist Carmen McRae once remarked: "There's really only one jazz singerβ€”only one: Betty Carter!

As always, today's promo is presented by Nancy Valentine from New York City. Her lovely voice tells you the story about Betty Carter, followed by a song sung by the legendary Jazz singer. This promo can be heard every 12/15 minutes past the EST hour.πŸ˜πŸŽ€πŸŽΉπŸŽ™πŸ˜ŽπŸ“» ;-)

DORIS DAY DIED TODAY! We will remember her every top of the hour with a short jingle and a song done by Doris. May she rest in peace! πŸ˜’πŸ“»πŸ˜”

Doris Day, the freckle-faced movie actress whose irrepressible personality and golden voice made her America’s top box-office star in the early 1960s, died on Monday at her home in Carmel Valley, Calif. She was 97.

The Doris Day Animal Foundation announced her death.

Ms. Day began her career as a big-band vocalist, and she was successful almost from the start: One of her first records, β€œSentimental Journey,” released in 1945, sold more than a million copies, and she went on to have numerous other hits. The bandleader Les Brown, with whom she sang for several years, once said, β€œAs a singer Doris belongs in the company of Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra.”

Today, May 12, we celebrate the 91st birthday of Burt Freeman Bacharach. Burt Bacharach is an American composer, songwriter, record producer, pianist, and singer who has composed hundreds of pop songs from the late 1950s through the 1980s, many in collaboration with lyricist Hal David.

A six-time Grammy Award winner and three-time Academy Award winner, Bacharach's songs have been recorded by more than 1,000 different artists. As of 2014, he had written 73 US and 52 UK Top 40 hits. He is considered one of the most important composers of 20th-century popular music.

As always, today's promo is presented by Nancy Valentine from New York City. Her lovely voice tells you the story about Burt's music, followed by a song written by Bacharach. This promo can be heard every 12/15 minutes past the EST hour.

Today, May 10th, presented as always by Nancy Valentine, we'll celebrate the birthday of a unique dancer and singer in American show business. The greatest songwriters like Cole Porter wrote songs especially for him or with him in mind. Due to his dancing and singin' film appearances with Ginger Rogers, he is widely regarded as the most influential dancer and singer in the history of film. Happy Birthday, FRED ASTAIRE! 😁

This promo and a few personal introductions by Astaire himself, plus a song, of course, can be heard every 12/15 minutes past the EST hour! πŸŽ™πŸ“»πŸ˜ŽπŸŽΌπŸ™ƒπŸ˜

A very special and attractive promo done by bass player Frank & Diane herself, plus a song done by her, runs every quarter to the even hour. We sincerely hope you'll like it too. πŸŽΌπŸ˜ŽπŸ€“πŸ€ͺπŸ™ƒ

White Christmas and so much more! Der Bingle! Bing Crosby was born this day so ... we celebrate his birthday today on May third. Bing Crosby was an American singer and actor. Crosby's trademark warm bass-baritone voice made him the best-selling recording artist of all time, having sold over one billion analog records and tapes, as well as digital compact discs and downloads around the world. Boo- boo- boo- boo ;-) O this pic he is together with Frank Sinatra on which Crosby once said ... Frank is a singer who comes along once in a lifetime, but why did he have to come in mine?

Today's two-minute profile, plus a song by Bing, can be heard every hour at 12/15 minutes past the (EST) hour and is, as always, presented to you by our dedicated, well informed, presenter Nancy Valentine from New York City. She's wonderful to listen to. πŸŽΆπŸ“·πŸ˜ŽπŸ€©πŸ˜

On her new album, Seven Elegant Balladsβ€”Japanese vocalist, Hiromi Kanda, re-crafts five of the most beloved songs in American history in her own lushly orchestrated, dramatic style, and augments them with two original compositions that fit snugly alongside the perennials. β€œThese songs take you into a romantic world,” says Hiromi, who recorded the album at Hollywood’s famed Capitol Studios, with her longtime producer Yusuke Hoguchi and the multi-Grammy-winning engineer Al Schmitt (Diana Krall, Ray Charles, Paul McCartney). The album features an orchestra composed of more than 50 musicians, plus three guest appearances by the late keyboard legend Joe Sample. Listen to Seven Elegant Ballads, on Spotify.
