Michael Maize – A Heart of Pride

We are here.
June 2019.
The 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots.
And I remind myself of the pride
I have for being an independent,
strong-willed
gay man
who continues
to let down
my walls of falsehood.
I feel the gratitude
for having the freedom
to live the life that I lead.
And, courage sparks
from my soul igniting new paths
and conquering new feats of expression,
as I combat the intense
homophobic actions
which still prevail today...

Do you feel like giving up on social media? A big reason people want to quit their social media goals is because they feel like having a social media presence isn’t worth their time. But that’s not true!

Think back to when you made your website. You wanted people to not only be able to “find you” on Google, but to get a feel for your and your business. And that’s EXACTLY what social media does.

It allows your future clients to “feel you out” before they contact you. Social media tells them a variety of things, from if you’re still in business, to how experienced you are, to what working with you is like, to many many other things.

If you invest in social media, you will get a return. All you need is the right tools, and soon it’ll be easy.

If you’re struggling, check out What the Heck to Post http://bit.ly/2RlOj6H

Give an account you like a shout-out!

Find 1-3 accounts that you audience would love and tag them in a post.

Why is this important?
1. The algorithm likes it when you tag people.
2. Tagging an influencer that is in line with your target market and that your audience would love builds trust and affinity with your audience while also building your relationship with the influencer, planting the seed for possible collaboration in 2019.
3. It also means you might be re-shared or reposted by said influencer so that you can appear in front of their audience, too.

So what does a shout-out look like? Take a look at my What The Heck To Post for inspiration http://bit.ly/2RlOj6H

Don’t be afraid to delete! Do you have to post a graphic for a campaign that doesn’t match your feed? Don’t worry about it! What you post is not set in stone, you’re allowed to get rid of anything! After you post it, just make sure to remember to come back and delete it when the campaign is over. That way, it doesn’t mess up the vibe that you’ve perfectly crafted. And if you’re not sure what kind of vibe you should be going for, take a look at my What The Heck To Post http://bit.ly/2RlOj6H

What was your 2018 highlight?

For me, it was realizing something I’m really good at: Identifying individual pain points for social media clients so we can design unique packages instead of a one size fits all approach like most agencies.

That’s what happened with this client.

Her needs were SO vastly different from all of our clients that I was honestly stumped on what kind of package to create for her and whether or not we’d even be successful. But -- despite the challenges -- my work with Janette became some of my favorite and most fun of the year.

I'm so excited to see what challenges are to come in 2019! ✨

Who’s feeling the after-Christmas slump? Me too 😴

I think I’m going off the grid right now… **emphasis on the word think.**

You see, I’m not good at turning off. Like… really not good at it. REALLY, REALLY not good it.

While Team Coach Social and I have worked for weeks to get ahead so we can spend this time with family, I just know in my bones that I’ll be checking my emails and doing pockets of work here and there that will keep me in my to-do list instead of enjoying my family.

Can you relate? Or are you a master at turning off? If you are, SHARE YOUR WAYS, FRIEND! 🙏🏻 How do you like to lay low and decompress over the holidays? (Please say it involves spiked eggnog…that’s a self-care plan I can get behind‼️)

Thank you, thank you in advance!

Get in their DMs! I’ve been testing organic social media strategies to find the best way to grow your email list, and I’ve found 3 that ACTUALLY work. I’ll share my favorite one with you: DMing your followers with a freebie. Now wait, before you go messaging away, make sure that you know they’re even interested in your DM. How do you do that?

Create a yes or no poll! Here’s a step by step:

1. Take out a pen and paper.
2. Look at your freebie.
3. Write down the biggest pain point your freebie solves.
4. Now, make a YES or NO poll addressing it.

Everyone who votes “yes” gets a DM at the end of the day with your freebie and a generous message! Want a real example? See the one I created here http://bit.ly/2Ldi2w0

The holidays came early 😉 Over the coming week's, I'm going to share a few tips to help you get past your biggest social media obstacles & hit the ground running in 2019.

Let's start with one of the biggest reasons coaches say they're inconsistent on social media: “I know the importance of social media today but it’s not in alignment with me to post content until I’m really inspired and have something awesome to say.”

This is a big reason coaches tell me they’re not consistent on social media. If that’s you, there’s one of two things that are really going on here...

1️⃣ You’re unclear about who you’re talking to, which means you’re unclear about their pain points, which means you’re struggling to come up with things to say. The remedy? Download my social media survival guide. It’s in my bio and is totally free. It will walk you through this step by step.

And if you’re thinking, “No way, Sophia. I know exactly who I’m speaking to. Then..

2️⃣ Let’s be real: This is your comfort zone talking. I know this because it sounds just like my comfort zone and she’s a real party pooper. Since when do we feel in “alignment” with things that are totally out of practice for us? NEVER. You’re at the beginning of something new & scary & … you’re doing it all in public. So of course I get it. But posting is a muscle. It will grow but it needs you to take it to the gym.

So here’s a tip… and it’s a little woo-woo. When you’re posting to social media, post as the badass social media goddess you’re going to be in one year’s time, not as the beginner you are today.

Take action from that curious self instead of that fearful, beginner self. Even if you fake it ‘til you make it. ✨

PS: In a few days I’ll share ACTION STEPS to help you make a plan for creating more strategic content in 2019 so you can find your posting mojo.

Stay tuned!

I’ve got answers to your burning podcast questions! Last week, during my weekly Thursday Q+A on my Instagram Story, I got a lot of questions about launching your podcast, so I wanted to share a recent podcast episode I did with Britany Felix of PODCASTING FOR COACHES.

If you’re wondering how soon you should begin promoting your podcast launch on social media, how and why you should get your audience involved from the very beginning stages of creating it, and how often you should post about it (too many posts and your audience will be annoyed, too few and they won’t pay attention), then take a listen http://bit.ly/2UBEK5l

“WAKE THE F*CK UP AND TAKE CARE OF ME,” said my body last week. In the past month, I’ve gone from having a cold, to the flu, to laryngitis and a bunch of sties on my eye. And with a health care regimen that consists of 20 hour days and no sleep, it's no wonder!

When I lost my voice, that was the final straw. I finally heard my body crying.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not proud of this at all. It’s embarrassing.

So this morning, I had to get real. I delegated a bunch of things I can no longer handle, I booked myself in for workouts all week, I scheduled a massage next weekend, I told my husband he could take the computer out of my hand at 9PM (😐), and I’ve started to meditate again.

I’m posting this here because nothing’s official until it’s on Facebook 😉 Just kidding. But in all seriousness, I’ve tried to do this a million times and it’s never stuck. Anyone else out there on a health journey and want to do it together? 👊🏻

5 REASONS WHY YOU’RE SEEING LESS ENGAGEMENT ON SOCIAL ⬇️

1️⃣ You’re using hashtags in your Facebook posts. Contrary to popular belief, hashtags have actually been shown to LIMIT your reach.

2️⃣ You’re posting on Twitter without taking a look at what’s trending that day. Twitter makes life a little easier, they actually share trending hashtags as they trend in the left hand panel of your Twitter homepage.

3️⃣ You’re using less than 30 hashtags in your Instagram posts. The rumors that 11 hashtags are best are incorrect.

4️⃣ You’re using banned hashtags on Instagram! Most don’t realize that if you’re using one banned tag, all of the tags you’re using will not work. And last I checked, 7% of used hashtags have been banned, so it’s more likely than you’d think that you’re using banned tags!

5️⃣ You’re not posting content that helps the algorithm HELP YOU. Tomorrow, join me and my friend Arriane AlexanderWe’ll be sharing 3 tips for creating content that makes the algorithm your friend in 2019!

See you at 10:30AM PST / 1:30PM EST!

Dear Brad,

The past 9 years -- almost to the day -- have been both challenging and exhilarating. Sometimes I don't know how we've made it through. From career changes, to family illness, to missing loved ones, to raising 2 dogs -- one of which is definitely related to a monster -- to green card issues, to living paycheck to paycheck, to starting businesses -- nothing about this life we've chosen has been easy. Except my relationship with you.

You are always strong, generous, loving, and supportive. It's only fitting that your birthday falls on Thanksgiving every few years because, when it comes to remembering what I'm grateful for, you're at the top of my list. HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my favorite turkey gobbler. #InsideJoke

I'm grateful for my dad's life. 3 years ago I was saying goodbye. He had a miraculous recovery and is still here.

I'm grateful for my admin assistant, Marisa Schilling. That girl is a badass. She keeps everything running while I'm trying to be creative. Thank freaking god because I still don't know how to use Freshbooks. 😁

I'm grateful for this crazy social media platform. As annoying as it is take pictures all the time (ha!), it's connected me with some amazing people and I'm so grateful for you.

And lastly, I'm also thankful for this here picture... because now I know what my #BodyGoals will be after I eat way too many calories and need to get back to the gym 😉

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!

It’s easy to think of what we don’t have — lots of money, time, the ideal career, etc. But I encourage you all to think of what you do have. Even if your life isn’t where you want it to be right now, think of the amazing things in your life currently. Maybe you have a super supportive family, a fulfilling job, or amazing dogs (I know I do!). So while you may not be rich financially, you may be rich in love, and that’s enough.

“I just don’t like social media, it consumes my time and I end up feeling unhappy because I just compare myself to everyone.”

"I'm afraid social media will mess me up."

I hear the above A LOT. In light of #WorldKindnessDay a few days ago, I thought of these tips to help:

1. Take command of your feeds. You don’t need to follow pages that make you unhappy. Delete, delete, delete. And if you can't unfollow a friend -- even if their political views drive you cray-cray, you can actually mute them. Read the blog below to learn how to do that.

2. Do you get a lot of comments that make you feel like crap? You can mute key words! I'll show you how with the blog below.

3. Monitor your screen time, Friend. I know that's hard to do in this day and age. Use a resource like MOMENT. I share a few other tips in the blog below.

Social media is CUSTOMIZABLE. Don't miss out on an opportunity to use it for your business. There are ways to make your social media experience nurturing instead of damaging.

This is the behind the scenes of online business, folks! Here I am recording my interview with Podcasting for Coaches with Britany Felix on Podcasting For Coaches.

My dog wasn't feeling well and wanted cuddles. I had a headache so I had to wear big, bulky computer glasses. Not to mention we both had a TON of computer glitches! Not so glamorous 😅but I did love talking all things social media content, especially when it comes to podcasting.

In this interview, I talked about launches — when you should promote, how you should promote, and the importance of your social media “story.” I also talked about launch teams (what’s that? listen and find out!), and if they’re really necessary.

Catch my interview http://bit.ly/2OfPPVn

I don’t have to tell you that knowing what to post 5+ times a week is really hard to do (yes, you should be posting a minimum of 5 times a week on most platforms 😱).

I won’t sugar coat it. This is the answer.

Not just because there’s nothing else quite like this on the market — especially not for coaches — but because there’s nothing else that’s less expensive!

In fact, my business coach told me $20 a month was way too little for this subscription but I really wanted to make this a no brainer for you.

What The Heck To Post is a weekly subscription that reveals an exact content calendar for creating better, more effective content in half the time.

And it’s delivered to you every. single. Friday.

Until Sunday, it’s $20 / month! Then it goes up to $54.99/month.
