Farm Sanctuary co-founder Gene Baur has been called the “conscience of the food movement” by TIME magazine. For more than 34 years he has traveled extensively around the country, campaigning to raise awareness about the abuses of industrialized factory farming and our current food system.
During this Covid-19 pandemic, Gene has appeared on mainstream media channels distinguishing this global tragedy as a direct symptom of our broken relationship with animals and the environment as a whole. These coronaviruses are zoonotic (transmitted between animals and people).
Since 1986, Farm Sanctuary has been fighting the abuses of factory farming, encouraging a new awareness of farm animals, and highlighting the benefits of cruelty-free, plant-based living. Those caring at the sanctuaries and the advocates around the world remain dedicated to this moment in time as a lesson for our future, one in which animals are our friends, not our food. We had the honor of producing this short film in 2018, “The Power of Sanctuary,” which captures the world and work of Farm Sanctuary.
