The stadium at Łazienkowska howled with disappointment when, about fifteen minutes before the end of the match with Chelsea, the referee blew a penalty for the visitors. Christopher Nkunku went up to the penalty spot, but was met with a bitter disappointment. Kacper Tobiasz sensed the intentions of the star of "The Blues" and effectively stopped his shot. Unfortunately, he had to pick the ball out of the net after a moment anyway.

Weezer bassist Scott Shriner is still set to perform with the band at Coachella despite an incident earlier this week where his wife was shot by police and arrested on attempted murder charges, a source close to the band tells Rolling Stone.

According to the news release from the Los Angeles Police Department, the incident occurred Tuesday afternoon, April 8, after California Highway Patrol requested backup in locating three misdemeanor hit-and-run suspects who fled into a residential neighborhood of Eagle Rock in Los Angeles. LAPD officers approached the back of a home where one of the suspects was seen running, and Jillian Lauren Shriner reportedly appeared in the yard of a nearby residence, armed with a handgun.

After officers ordered Shriner to drop the firearm, she refused numerous times and pointed the handgun toward the officers, per the news release, and a shootout took place, during which Shriner was struck by gunfire and retreated back into her residence.

“At that point, there were some commands given, multiple commands to drop the gun, drop the weapon, unfortunately, it did result in an officer-involved shooting,” Detective Meghan Aguilar said at a press conference Wednesday.

Shriner and a babysitter eventually left the residence and surrendered to the police; Shriner was taken to a nearby hospital and treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. A 9 mm handgun was recovered from her residence.

Jillian Lauren Shriner, an author with two New York Times bestsellers, was later booked on attempted murder charges — police allege she fired her weapon at them before she was shot — and after arraignment, was released on $1 million bail.

The 89th playing of the Masters is underway.

The first major championship of the year got off and running on Thursday morning at Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia, starting with the annual ceremonial tee shot from Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player and Tom Watson. From there, the quest for the iconic green jacket was on.

Scottie Scheffler is the betting favorite this week after his win there last year. The top-ranked golfer in the world flew ahead to a four-shot win over Ludvig Åberg and the rest of the field a year ago to claim his second career Masters win. Scheffler has three top-10 finishes so far this season on the PGA Tour, including a runner-up finish in his last start at the Texas Children's Houston Open.

Rory McIlroy has the second-best odds entering the tournament, though he hasn’t won a major championship since 2014 despite coming painfully close plenty of times. There are 12 LIV Golf members in the field this week, too, including 2023 winner Jon Rahm. Only seven of them have lifetime status from previous wins, though, which is only going to make things more difficult for the rest of the golfers on the Saudi Arabian-backed circuit to earn a spot in the field in the future so long as the golf world remains fractured.

Stick with Yahoo Sports this week as we keep you up to date with the latest action from Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia, and check out the leaderboard here.

Trump’s triple-digit tariff essentially cuts off most trade with China, says economist

President Donald Trump’s tariff increase on imports from China would basically end most trade between that country and the U.S., according to economist Erica York.

“It depends on how narrowly the tariff is applied or how broadly it’s applied, but generally if you get north of a triple-digit tariff, you are cutting off most trade,” the vice president of federal tax policy at the Tax Foundation’s Center for Federal Tax Policy said on CNBC’s “The Exchange” on Thursday. “There may still be some things without any substitutes that companies just have to foot the bill, but for the most part, that cuts it off.”

Her remarks came amid the market wiping out some of its monster gains seen on Wednesday. The market accelerated declines on Thursday once a White House official confirmed to CNBC that the U.S. tariff rate on Chinese goods now stands at 145%. That total includes the recent hike to 125% from 84% that Trump announced Wednesday as well as a 20% fentanyl-related duty that the president had previously put into effect.

York stressed that the market still isn’t in the clear, saying “it’s not like the threat went away entirely,” as no clarity is expected until July when the tariff reprieve is scheduled to end.

On Wednesday, Trump announced that he’s temporarily reducing the tariff rates on imports from most countries, except China, to 10% for 90 days. In a Cabinet meeting Thursday, the president declined to rule out the possibility of extending the 90-day reversal.

Taking into account the China tariffs, the baseline 10% levies still in place and other sector tariffs, Trump has still taken the country into its most protectionist stance in decades, even with the pause.

“It’ll take the average tariff rate still to highs that we haven’t seen since the 1940s, so this is major,” the economist added. “It’s huge cost increases. It’s an economic hit. It’s clearly not setting us on a very good path.”

The Tax Foundation estimates that all of the new Trump tariffs will lead to an increase in federal tax revenues of $171.6 billion for this year. That would make Trump’s tariffs the biggest tax increase since 1993, more than the hikes under both former presidents George H.W. Bush and Barack Obama, the institution revealed.

China has said it won’t flinch if trade dynamics were to escalate into a trade war. Just hours prior to Trump’s tariff pause announcement, China raised its retaliatory levies on U.S. imports to 84% from 34%, which went into effect Thursday.

A Minecraft Movie’—The Chicken Jockey Meme, Explained

A Minecraft Movie has struck gold at the box office, and attracted cheering crowds reacting wildly to the film, thanks to a TikTok meme.

During showings of the film, crowds of Minecraft fans—mostly teens—are joining in with every Minecraft-related phrase that Jack Black shouts out, especially “Chicken Jockey.”

The film adaptation of the incredibly popular video game, A Minecraft Movie fell flat with critics with 48% on Rotten Tomatoes, but has been met with hysterical audience reactions thanks to memes that spread online before the film’s release.

Like showings of The Rocky Horror Picture Show and The Room, fans are participating and interacting with the film as though they are attending a rock concert, with some instances of disruptive behavior.
