As little toddlers, brothers Bill and Brendan Ryan first began playing music to accompany their crooning-tap dancing-father. But as their love of performing such standards as The Kingston Trio's "Scotch and Soda" and The Platters "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" waned, their enthusiasm for Rock-n-Roll waxed. Music became more than just a family affair. The Ryan Brothers co-founded the New York basedband, The Bogmen. Signed to Arista Records, some compared the band to Talking Heads or U2. In Billboard magazine, Timothy White called its act "jubilant bedlam." Jon Pareles of The New York Times wrote, "Cynicism and pessimism rarely sound as cheerful as they do in the songs of the Bogmen." The Bogmen recorded and released two records with Arista. Jerry Harrison from Talking Heads produced their first album, "Life Begins at Forty Million." Best known for his work in funk, dub, ambient, hardcore, and jazz, Bill Laswell produced the Bogmen's second record, "Closed Captioned Radio." The Ryan Brothers have scored several independent and Studio films and have landed a National Jingle for Radioshack and VH1. Some of their recent film work includes "The Heartbreak Kid" (Ben Stiller), "Fever Pitch" (Drew Barrymore, Jimmy Fallon), "Hall Pass" (Owen Wilson) and "Henry's Crime" Trailer (Keanu Reeves, James Caahn), and Pride and Glory (Ed Norton, Jon Voight), "The First Saturday in May", "Mo", "Jacques", "A Gun to the Head" and "The Athlete". Bill and Brendan are founding member of three bands. "Gordon Gano & The Ryans" who recently released a record with Yep Roc Records. You may know Gordon's work as the lead singer and principle songwriter of Violent Femmes (Blister in the Sun). Gordon Gano & The Ryans are about to tour the UK and Ireland. "The Bogmen" were signed to Arista records, and continue to do shows and write music. And Mad Larry, a band that he has with his brother Billy. Brendan is also known for his orchestral work with The New Pornographers, and his studio contributions for Okkervill River and AC Newman. Bill and Brendan have written and recorded hundreds of pieces of music in about thirty different genres of music and has his own music library.
