In The 1970's I moved to Florence as a high school and then college student. It was a time of great renaissance in Florence for many reasons, many of which were lead by a small team of architects including Fabrizio Fiumi.
Fabrizio is no longer with us but his daughters: Elettra Fiumi Lilla Fiumi DiFlorio & son Morgan Fiumi and wife Terry Fiumi are.
Elettra has just made a film that was featured in the festival, happening now!
The documentary, entitled RADICAL LANDSCAPES - follows the creative lifestyle of Fabrizio and team throughout Florence and the United States where they traveled extensively - up to WBE they exhibited at MoMA where their design work was featured - opening to rave review
Grazie Elettra. I lived across the street in Florence from Space Electronic, in Via Palazzuolo - and much of my life revolved around this fascinating Disco space that Fabrizio and team designed. Much of the doc explains the roots of Lo Space and how innovative it truly was!
Viva Firenze, Viva Lo Space and Viva Fabrizio Fiumi! 🇮🇹👏🏻👏🏻💐

And just like that, Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall became the Arena di Verona! For anyone who has visited the Arena di Verona, you already know what a magical place it is. Steeped in history –it is 2000 years old, the arena is the largest amphitheater in the world.
The Fondazione Arena di Verona hosted a special event in NYC to present their rich 2023 program for the 2023 season which will take place from June 16th to September 9, 2023. The Arena is a perfectly preserved ancient Roman amphitheater in the heart of Verona, the city of Romeo and Juliet, the city of love, in the italian region of Veneto.
Since 1913, the year the world celebrated the centenary of Giuseppe Verdi’s birth, the magic of grand opera under the stars has been repeated for thousands of spectators from all over the world, each summer.
Thanks to Cecilia Gasdia, - Artistic Director of the Arena & Co. who have provided music lovers with the opportunity to hear a great repertoire of Italian operas bringing together well-known artists and promising young talents: Federico Brunello at the piano, Monica Conesa (soprano), Gilda Fiume (soprano), Olesya Petrova ( mezzo-soprano), Brian Jadge (baritono), Luca Salsi (baritono), Christian Van Horn ( bass-baritone).
We can’t wait to be at the Arena di Verona to enjoy the full Italian experience of the opera. Here’s what we have to look forward to: Giuseppe Verdi’s Aida, Rigoletto, La Traviata, & Nabucco
Bizet’s Carmen, Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia, “
& Giacomo Puccini’s Tosca & Madama Butterfly.

For an encore: Imagine this: jumps on stage, sits at the piano and plays "O Sole Mio," all opera singers on stage join in- as to we all. (CHE GIOIA! What Joy!!)
Ci vediamo a Verona nel 2023! Grazie 👏🏻👏🏻🇮🇹

TILL , directed by Chinonye Chukwu is a beautiful film that recounts the story of Emmett Till
Who was lynched at the age of 14 while visiting his cousins in Mississippi.
We all know a bit of the story but this film written by Keith Beauchamp (who has spent a lifetime telling the story of Emmett Till, Beauchamp is a producer and director, known for The Untold Story of Emmett Louis Till (2005).
With beautiful music by Abel Korzeniowski,
Cast includes Danielle Deadwyler as Mamie, Emmett's mother who dedicates her life to sharing Emmett's story.
67 years later (only this year) --
The Emmett Till Antilynching Act, an American law which makes lynching a federal hate crime, was signed into law on March 29, 2022 by President Joe Biden.

Whoopi Goldberg plays Emmett's grandmother and is also one of the producers.

Please see this film. It is so important. Every mother that has a son will understand the importance.

Till was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. During summer vacation in August 1955, he was visiting relatives near Money, Mississippi, in the Mississippi Delta region. He spoke to 21-year-old Carolyn Bryant, the white, married proprietor of a small grocery store there. Although what happened at the store is a matter of dispute, Till was accused of flirting with, touching, or whistling at Bryant. Till's interaction with Bryant, perhaps unwittingly, violated the unwritten code of behavior for a black male interacting with a white female in the Jim Crow-era South. Several nights after the incident in the store, Bryant's husband, Roy, and his half-brother J.W. Milam, who were armed, went to Till's great-uncle's house and abducted Emmett. They took him away then beat and mutilated him before shooting him in the head and sinking his body in the Tallahatchie River. Three days later, the boy’s mutilated and bloated body was discovered and retrieved from the river.
TILL recounts this story with respect and follows Mamie's story as she shares the horrific loss of her only son.

Would have loved to be in Venice for the Venice International Film Festival but could not get there to see all the great films and glam! Missed seeing Julianne Moore, Harry Styles, Hillary Clinton, even a tribute to Sergio Leone. O mio Dio!
So what did I do? I went to the Italian Cultural Institute in NYC to see the exhibit curated by Marco Bertoli Italian Light: Skies and Water.
I set my eyes on Ettore Tito's beautiful painting: SPIAGGIA Del LIDO, Lido Beach, painted in 1914, closed my eyes and dreamed.

Ciak! We’re back!
Last night NYC truly came alive again when Italy returned for Open Roads: New Italian Cinema Film at Lincoln Center!

It was so great to see all of you and catch up!
Sally Fischer, Gris Guerrasio, Gabriele Mainetti Vincenzo Amato, Laura Caparrotti Frank J. Avella!
Wonderful meeting and talking with the lovely whose second film will be screening this week as well as other filmmakers and some of the actors. I’m looking forward to viewing as many of the films as possible!

Congrats Gabriele on another unprecedented Italian film. You really invoked the “magic superpowers” every human should access within themselves in the face of na**sm and fascism. Every element is impeccable - from the script to your dedication in casting, your direction and the performances, the cinematography, editing, production design, score — bravo and bravissimi!
Evviva the healthy control FREAKS!
And you know I’m partial to the scenes you shot in “my” beloved territory, Calabria.
🎞💛

Thank you Sally Fischer Public Relations and Istituto Luce Cinecittà Cinecittà for having me. It always brings me immense joy to be part of your love for the Italian cinema.✨
What are the secrets of “Made in Italy,” a label that has become synonymous with quality, luxury, refined aesthetics, and a sense of style since the post-World War II era?

In his new book, The Art of Excellent Products: Enchanting Customers with Premium BrandExperiences (Harper Collins Leadership, March 22, 2022), Riccardo Illy , former chairman of Gruppo illy and current chairman of Polo del Gusto, shares the specific business principles that have led companies such as Ferrari, Gucci, Versace, and Martini to become some of the most recognizable brands in the world and have stood the test of time.

“Our belief that some of what we do is not for ourselves but for the people we will never know, decades or centuries or millennia from now, is key to everything about the Italian way of business,” writes Illy. “For you, the reader, we will look at ways you can learn from the Italian philosophy of Incanto. It is possible to adopt an Italian mindset, one that prioritizes quality over short-term profits, and sustainability over environmental degradation.”

As every year, Istituto Luce Cinecittà, Rome, and celebrate an outstanding personality of Italian cinema. This year’ tribute is dedicated to the great Italian actor, director, and screenwriter (1922–1990) with a retrospective that spans his four-decade career. The series features 25 of his nearly 150 films.
His daughter, director , on behalf of the family (mother Francesca Bettoja and brothers Ricky Tognazzi, GianMarco Tognazzi and ) will open the ceremonies in New York on December 5th, by presenting her documentary “Portrait of my father” and introducing the movie by “Tragedy of a ridiculous man” who won him the Cannes Prix for Best Actor in 1981. Bertolucci was the also subject of a major retrospective at MoMA in 2010–2011, another MoMA/Luce Cinecittà collaboration.
On December 3rd, Maria Sole Tognazzi will present the retrospective, with insight of her family taken from the documentary, and the book “Ugo Tognazzi: story, style and secrets of a great actor” with original drawings by Luisa Mazzone, curated by Mario Sesti, at the Istituto Italiano Di Cultura.
Ugo Tognazzi’s career began in satirical sketch comedies of fledgling 1950s Italian television—his gifts of impersonation and improvisation are hilariously on display in films like Dino Risi’s I mostri (1963) and Luigi Zampa’s A Question of Honor (1965)—and deepened as his roles in later years became more acidic and introspective. If a typical Tognazzi character was virile and dissolute, sweet-talking his way into beds, executive offices, and corridors of power, he was also confronted with the sinking awareness of his own mortality. Dal 5 al 30 dicembre 2018: Omaggio di Istituto Luce Cinecittà a Ugo Tognazzi
al MoMA The Museum of Modern Art

, della Columbia University in the City of New York, modererà la presentazione.
