Eli Lilly announced it will acquire clinical-stage biotech AtaiBeckley in a deal worth up to $3.8 billion, adding experimental psychedelic-inspired therapies for treatment-resistant depression to its growing neuroscience portfolio.
The acquisition is one of the largest investments Big Pharma has made in the psychedelic space to date, reflecting growing confidence that next-generation mental health treatments may play a significant role in the future of medicine. At the center of the deal are investigational therapies designed to promote new neural connections through mechanisms that differ from conventional antidepressants.

As clinical research continues to evolve, partnerships and acquisitions like this could reshape how the pharmaceutical industry approaches depression and other psychiatric disorders.
