🚨 Justice For Athena Strand: Death For Killer

After weeks of graphic, emotional testimony in the capital murder sentencing phase, a Tarrant County jury has sentenced former FedEx delivery driver Tanner Horner to death for the kidnapping and murder of 7‑year‑old Athena Strand. Horner had pleaded guilty to capital murder and aggravated kidnapping at the start of the trial in April.

The jury reached its decision after roughly three hours of deliberation following closing arguments and the presentation of evidence, before returning a unanimous death penalty verdict.

During the sentencing trial, jurors heard horrifying audio and video evidence from inside Horner’s delivery truck, showing the moments after he abducted Athena and captured her heartbreaking final moments, as she pleaded for her mother.

Prosecutors also presented testimony on Horner’s past, including a surprise rebuttal witness, while the defense emphasized his mental health and troubled upbringing in an attempt to spare his life.

Nothing can bring Athena back, but this verdict is a measure of justice for her. Our hearts and prayers are with Athena’s family as they face this difficult moment. We’ve all been deeply heartbroken over her loss, and we are relieved that justice has been served.

During the Second World War he was deported to Maly Trostenets extermination camp, German-occupied Belarus. Heinz was only 5 years old when he was murdered there on 31 August 1942.
