In the comic books—most notably during the 2015 Secret Wars storyline written by Jonathan Hickman—Doctor Doom achieves ultimate power by seizing the abilities of divine, god-like beings called the Beyonders.
When the multiverse collapses during the "Incursions," Doom uses this cosmic energy to piece together the surviving fragments of destroyed dimensions into a single patchworked planet called Battleworld. He crowns himself God Emperor Doom, maintaining absolute control through manipulation, trickery, and sheer force.
💚 1. How He Convinces Them (The Lies & Gods)
Doom doesn't just rule by fear—he builds a religion and an entire hierarchy centered around himself:
✨Rewriting Reality and Memories: Doom wipes the memories of almost everyone living on Battleworld. The inhabitants don't remember their original universes; they truly believe the multiverse never existed and that Doom was the creator who saved them from nothingness.
✨The High Sheriff (Doctor Strange): Stephen Strange willingly serves as Doom’s right-hand man and Sheriff. Strange knows the truth, but he helps Doom because he believes Doom’s dictatorial rule is the only thing preventing complete non-existence.
✨The "Barons": Doom appoints powerful heroes and villains (like Magneto, Madelyne Pryor, and Mister Sinister) as "Barons" to rule over individual domains. He plays on their greed, ego, and desire for order, granting them localized absolute power as long as they pay tribute and pledge ultimate loyalty to him.
💚 2. His Personal Army & Sorcerers
To enforce his law across the realms, Doom relies on specialized forces:
✨The Thor Corps (His Enforcers): Instead of standard soldiers, Doom recruits variants of Thor from across different dimensions. He convinces them that wielding Mjolnir is a holy duty to protect "God Emperor Doom" and maintain peace. They act as his ultimate police force.
✨Sorcerers and Dark Magic: Doom has always been a master of both science and sorcery. He employs mystic users, witches, and sorcerers across various domains (and in other storylines, like One World Under Doom, he officially takes the title of Sorcerer Supreme by striking deals with Doctor Strange).
In Secret Wars, he uses dark sorcery to seal off nightmares beyond "The Shield"—a massive wall guarding Battleworld from hordes of Zombies, Ultron bots, and cosmic threats.
💚 3. How It All Collapses
Even with total control, Doom’s empire crumbles because it is built on lies:
✨Surviving Heroes Arrive: A life raft containing original heroes from Earth-616 (including Mister Reed Richards, Black Panther, and Jane Foster's Thor) survives the multiversal collapse and wakes up on Battleworld.
✨The Truth Spreads: Jane Foster approaches the Thor Corps and reveals that Doom lied to them. Realizing they were serving a mortal tyrant instead of a true god, the Thor Corps turns their hammers against Doom.
✨The Final Showdown: Doctor Strange turns on Doom to protect the survivors, leading Doom to kill Strange in a fit of rage. Eventually, Reed Richards and Black Panther confront Doom, stripping him of his stolen godhood and restoring the proper Marvel Universe.
