Yesterday’s Wordle was also the “answer” to a long-held prayer.

Thank you and of for all the hints and solutions to my publishing puzzles.

Should ‘a taken a left turn at Albuquerque? With so many options, do you feel often stuck finding it hard to make a choice? ⬅️ ➡️ ↗️ ↖️ 🔄 🔃

That’s understandable. It’s easy for smart and caring people to feel decision fatigue.

Kyle () who was driving, told me to snap this photo while we were on Route 66 last week. It captures how overwhelming life can feel. But, it can also remind us what we can do about it:

1. Even if we feel we “should’a taken a left,” we can backtrack, try again, and make the “right” turn. Or, we can make a better choice next time. Every single little decision doesn’t have to carry so much weight because we can make fixes.

2. We shouldn’t dwell too long on every single choice. It’s likely to turn to chatter or negative self-talk. Imagine if you sat at this intersection. Cars behind you would start honking. You could cause a traffic jam.

3. It does help to know where you are going, or at least have just a little bit of guidance or some rules of thumb. Let’s say you need to go to the airport. Look at the photo again. What do you see? I bet that picture of the plane stood out to you!

“The regulation tools that are based on approaching our emotions are often considered universally good, and the coping mechanisms we use to avoid our emotions are considered universally bad….

“[Instead] think of your ability to express and suppress emotion as the equivalent of push-ups and pull-ups. Being able to switch back and forth between these exercises is a good measure of your strength and agility…

“The people who were best at switching back and forth between the two [expressing and suppressing emotions] showed a higher degree of flexibility…a key indicator for resilience.” - , Shift: Managing Your Emotions So They Don’t Manage You.

Dr. Kross is one of my favorite authors from U of M, whose alumni association is hosting me to give a career webinar tomorrow. (Free to public, link in bio.) You can bet I’ll be mentioning his work during the presentation.

Meanwhile, my knitting project is coming along, just in time for Easter…

I get to share what I’ve learned from my AMAZING clients—people you would never guess from their track records that they, too, drag their feet on stuff they know is important or even on stuff they really want to do.

As a proud parent of a Wolverine, I’m super thrilled I get to do this despite being a graduate of another OG BIG10 school. Go BLUE!!

Registration link is in my bio. There will be a recording!!

Go Cats! (Sorry, I couldn’t resist.)

“Kathy Nicely always wanted more….She liked my circumstances being so much lower than her own. She couldn’t envy anything about me. Kathy always wanted something she didn’t have. She had those beautiful daughters but they weren’t enough. She wanted a son. She had a nice house in Hanston, but it wasn’t nice enough. She wanted something closer to a city…. That’s how she was.” Lucy’s Mom, My Name is Lucy Barton by

I admit there are days, I feel like Kathy Nicely….

Even in my leisure time, I can’t seem to escape seeing everywhere.

Growing up we did not own a stand mixer. My mother and I always mixed things by hand or with a hand mixer.

Avid bakers, A&G begged us for one for years. Given that counter space is a premium in our NYC kitchen, we only agreed maybe 4 years ago.

A creature of habit, I finally used it for the first time today.

What was I thinking! 🤦🏻‍♀️I was so stubborn. I should have switched over a long time ago.

“Conservative consistency over flash in all arenas… ‘steady strikes no big shots.’ Don’t go for a big shot and don’t be a big shot. Happiness is security… The sweet spot…is being ranked a rung or two below the big shots and not caring about being on top. Because, it’s not about getting everything you want but being satisfied with what you do have. That’s real security.” - Teddy Wayne

Been listening to more fiction lately, as it makes a nice break from reading academic journal articles for my book. Yet, I can't seem to escape the subject of hashtag . Then again, it IS everywhere.

Also, trying to use more yarn from my stash, I'm knitting a striped raglan sweater top-down inspired by "Vesper" by Devon Ventre

Please spread some love and take a moment to support four bills scrapped last December but now re-introduced to Congress. Just click the link in my bio and fill out a short form to ask your representatives to support the bills.

In case you want more information, here is how of describes these important pieces of legislation:

“The Give Kids a Chance Act to reauthorize rare pediatric priority review voucher program, also known as the the Creating Hope Reauthorization Act, that expired in December 2024 after yielding 65 new drugs for kids;

The Creating Hope Reauthorization Act to maximize chances scientists find cures for kids with cancer by providing for pediatric studies of combinations of new cancer drugs;

The Innovation in Pediatric Drugs Act to extend an enforcement mechanism for postmarket studies to pediatric study plans that are not completed

The RARE Act to ensure the Orphan Drug Act benefits extend to the indication for which a drug is approved rather than to the designation

The Give Kids a Chance Act is a bipartisan bill that this Congress can pass now.”

It would be the loveliest Valentine to our family and many others. Thank you!!

How will you develop your middle ring this year?

“Home-based, phone-based culture has arguably solidified our closest and most distant connections, the inner ring of family and best friends (bound by blood and intimacy) and the outer ring of tribe (linked by shared affinities). But it’s wreaking havoc on the middle ring of “familiar but not intimate” relationships with the people who live around us... The middle ring is key to social cohesion...

Despite a consumer economy that seems optimized for introverted behavior, we would have happier days, years, and lives if we resisted the undertow of the convenience curse—if we talked with more strangers, belonged to more groups, and left the house for more activities.” -

Prospective coaching clients come to me either because they want a career change or anticipate a disruptive one. It could be wanting to get away from a bad boss or a depleting schedule, or a desire to do something different.

What I have observed is this: When are on the brink of change, we get fearful because we are familiar with what we will lose, but can't imagine what we can gain.

For example, I knew how I would miss my daughters when they went off to college, but I couldn't have known NEW joys in things like the Farmers Market, knitting, or writing.

I wrote more about this and provided a wonderful resource to my newsletter subscribers yesterday. Comment "Farmers Market" and I will send it to you!
