Here’s a fun fact: Roman concrete, known as opus caementicium, has proven to be incredibly durable over the centuries. Unlike modern concrete, which can deteriorate over time, Roman concrete actually grows stronger with age. This durability is attributed to the use of volcanic ash, which reacts with seawater to create a robust, long-lasting material. This is part of why many ancient Roman structures, like the Pantheon and aqueducts, have survived for millennia.
