You lost by 1.7 million votes, when will you close the gap? Be there and say aka 9 pɛ, we would be in opposition forever – Kennedy Agyapong to Bawumia
Flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has raised doubts over his main rival Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s famed “Aka 9 pɛ” mantra, questioning the timeline for the party’s return to power.
“You lost the national elections with a deficit of 1.7 million votes. When are you going to close this gap? I heard someone [Dr Bawumia] saying Aka 9 pɛ.
"Okay, if that’s the case, Mahama lost with a vote deficit of one million in 2016. It took him eight years to bounce back. If you have lost by 1.7 million, then this: If one million is equal to eight years, then 1.7 million is equal to X. So, find X,” Agyapong told party delegates during an engagement in the Western North Region.
The former Assin Central MP explained that Bawumia’s logic, if followed, would keep the NPP out of power for years.
“The Aka 9 pɛ logic, promoted by Dr Bawumia’s camp, means that the NPP will remain in opposition for many more years. If the current president, John Dramani Mahama, took eight years to close a deficit of one million votes after losing the 2016 election to win the December 7, 2024 polls, then it leaves one to wonder how long it will take the NPP to return to power,” he said.
