Many online eulogies, penned by her peers in Hollywood, include words like “legend,” “icon,” “giant,” and, of course, “star.” Diane certainly lived up to these monikers; her career spanned more than 50 years as one of Hollywood’s most well-known actors.

We knew that when the next International SWAN Day rolled around on March 28, 2026, Diane Keaton would be our “American Icon.”

Celebrate her life and career with us at the AMC Empire 25.

This date marks Barbie’s arrival on the toy scene in 1959, making her 67 this year. While Barbie has lived more lives than anyone could in that 67 year span of time, she remains an enduring testament that a life of exploration and enjoyment knows no age barrier.

So this National Barbie Day, celebrate her birthday by reading up on her legacy and the legacy of the many women who have helped keep her a household name: https://www.ff2media.com/blog/2026/03/09/dream-big-dreams-on-international-barbie-day/

Our first Swan crush of goes to none other than Ayo Edebiri.

Ayo is the “people’s princess of the Republic of the Very Online” (Vogue). Through-out this rise to international fame, however, Ayo has maintained her funny and down-to-earth demeanor.

Her honest and self-deprecating humor (which has certainly resonated with Gen Z), has transformed her into a new kind of relatable superstar. She can only get bigger from here: https://www.ff2media.com/blog/2025/02/07/birthday-gal-ayo-edebiri-vibrates-at-a-high-frequency/

In recent weeks, ICE agents have tormented American citizens. Those who try to protest the ICE raids are met with tear gas and violence. In times like these, we look to art to make sense of things.

The unrest and upheaval of current day America mirrors that of Ragtime’s narrative, making it all the more unsettling for audience members to view. Ragtime puts on display the brutal consequences of civilians exercising their rights and the lengths to which governmental agencies will go to maintain the rigid status quo.

Lear deBessonet triumphs in her capturing of the interweaving narratives with compassion, not shying away from exposing the ugly truths of America’s foundation, but still filled with optimism for our nation’s future. The film centers on four main characters: Alma (Hanna Heckt, in one of my favorite child performances of the year), a little girl we meet as the country teeters on the precipice of World War I; Erika (Lea Drinda), a teenager living in the 1940s before World War II; Angelika (Lena Urzendowsky), a teenager growing up before the fall of the Berlin wall; and pr***en Lenka (Laeni Geiseler), the only one of the main characters not related to the others, and the only one living in the present day.

To be a woman is to be aware of eyes on you at all times, but in this way, Mascha lets her characters carve out little spaces of agency. To read our review, tap on the link in our bio.

We Focus On Female Filmmakers

FF2 Media shares weekly reviews of films written and directed by women. From independent features to documentaries to big-budget releases, our all-female staff of critics cover every film with a theatrical release in New York City. Our contributors are also based in Los Angeles and Chicago.

Editor-in-Chief Jan Lisa Huttner has been working to represent female film critics and filmmakers since 2002. Since then, our organization has grown to more than 25 women working nationwide to give a voice to women in film.
