Albert Anastasia, the newly appointed head of Murder, Inc., was quickly consulted. Murder, Inc., was the enforcement arm of the syndicate, it's job being to liquidate any unruly member who went against syndicate decisions. The board voted to kill Schultz to preserve it's rackets and avoid a law-and-order crusade that would see the infant syndicate's destruction, which would undoubtedly occur if Dewey were killed. Anastasia promised the board Dutch Schultz would be dead that night, Oct 23, 1935.

Mickey Cohen, 1913-1976, USA. A small time gambler Cohen supposedly inherited Siegel's criminal empire in Los Angeles when Siegel was murdered in the home of his mistress Virginia Hill in 1947. Cohen's response to his bosses murder was to enter the lobby of the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood, pull out two 45 caliber automatics and empty them into the ceiling of the foyer demanding that Siegel's Killers who he believed to be hiding in the hotel meet him outside in 10 minutes. When no one but the police arrived, Cohen Departed. The mantle of organized crime leadership fell to Frank Carbo and the dragna family when Siegel died, but Cohen was allowed to keep some of the smaller gambling operations.
