Has anyone actually run into a situation where a 9mm Allen wrench was needed? šŸ¤”

I picked up a new set of mid-length Allen keys from my local MAC Tools dealer today. The set is supposed to include a 9mm, but when I opened it up, it had two 8mm keys instead.

Normally I'd be annoyed, but it got me thinkingā€”I can't remember ever needing a 9mm Allen in my entire career.

I work in a machine shop, and 8mm and 10mm get used all the time. The set also includes a 7mm, which I've only needed once in 25 years!

So now I'm curious:

Where have you actually seen a 9mm Allen used? Is it common in any specific industry, equipment, or imported machinery, or is it one of those sizes that mostly exists to complete a set?

I'd love to hear some real-world examples. šŸ”§šŸ‘‡

I was looking through some of my tools and noticed that a pair of 3/8" drive GK socketsā€”a 15/16" and a 1"ā€”just sold on eBay for $106.

Now I'm curious... what am I missing here? šŸ¤”

Are these sockets particularly rare or hard to find? I always thought they were neat pieces, but I didn't realize they might bring that kind of money.

Anyone familiar with GK tools or vintage socket collecting care to explain what makes them so desirable? I'd love to learn a little more before I decide whether to keep them or cash in! šŸ”§

I think I just made the score of a lifetime when it comes to adding to my tool collection! šŸ”§šŸ˜Ž

Picked up this haul along the Route 127 Yard Saleā€”the famous garage sale that stretches through multiple states. I'm in Ohio, and I couldn't pass this one up.

The highlight for me has to be all the amber-handle pieces in both 1/2" and 3/8" drive. Those old handles have so much character, and finding the matching BE sockets to go with them made the deal even better.

It's not every day you come across a collection like this, especially with so many pieces still together. Definitely one of my favorite garage sale finds in a long time.

Any fellow tool collectors know much about these pieces? I'd love to hear your thoughts on the haul and whether you spot anything particularly special! šŸ”©šŸ› ļø

I made a costly mistake and could use some honest advice from anyone who's dealt with this before.

While tightening the transmission fluid fill bolt, I overtightened it and ended up cracking the housing around the fill hole. Itā€™s now leaking transmission fluid, and my attempt to seal it with JB Weld hasn't held up.

At this point, I'm trying to figure out the proper fix before I make the situation worse.

Has anyone successfully repaired a cracked transmission housing like this? If so, what method worked? Welding, thread insert, specialty epoxy, or something else?

Or am I realistically looking at replacing the housing or transmission case section altogether?

I know this one is on me, so I'm not looking to dodge responsibilityā€”just hoping to hear from people who've been through something similar and can point me in the right direction.

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks! šŸ”§
