Sometimes, a small act of kindness can mean so much to a child who simply needs a little extra help.

In Utah, school bus driver Tracy Dean noticed that 11-year-old student Isabella Pieri was having trouble managing her long hair before school.

Isabella’s mother passed away when she was nine, and her father worked long hours. As a result, Isabella often had to get herself ready for school in the morning, including trying to style her hair on her own.

One morning, Tracy saw Isabella asking for help. Tracy, who was a mother of seven herself, decided to step in.

After completing her bus route, Tracy began braiding and styling Isabella’s hair every morning right on the school bus. What started as a simple gesture became a regular part of Isabella’s morning routine.

Tracy didn’t just help with Isabella’s hair. Her kindness gave the young student someone she could count on during a difficult time in her childhood.

The heartwarming story gained widespread attention in 2018, after local news outlet KSL-TV and other media shared their story. People around the world were touched by Tracy’s decision to use a few extra minutes of her morning to make a difference in a child’s day.

It is a beautiful reminder that kindness does not always require something big. Sometimes, it can be as simple as sitting beside someone, picking up a hairbrush and saying, “I’ve got you.”

What would make a school principal take a second job overnight? For Henry Darby, it was the chance to help students who needed extra support.

In late 2020, Henry Darby, principal of North Charleston High School in South Carolina, began working a 10 PM to 7 AM shift at Walmart three nights a week.

After finishing his overnight shift, Darby would head straight to his school and continue working as a high school principal. But he was not taking the second job simply to earn extra money.

Darby donated 100% of his Walmart paychecks to an emergency fund created to support his students and their families during difficult financial times.

The money helped families with everyday essentials such as rent, electricity bills and groceries. For Darby, the goal was simple: help remove some of the financial pressure facing families in his school community so students could focus more on their education.

His extraordinary effort soon gained national attention after local media and NBC’s Today featured his story.

The support that followed was just as remarkable. Walmart donated $50,000 to the school, while an online fundraiser raised more than $100,000 to support Darby’s students.

Darby’s story touched many people because he did more than ask others to help. He personally gave his time, energy and earnings to the students he served.

Sometimes, leadership is not just about what happens inside a classroom—it is about showing up for your community when people need you most.

Andrew Garfield has made it clear that his affection for Harry Potter does not mean he is comfortable supporting its creator financially.

The We Live in Time, The Amazing Spider-Man and Hacksaw Ridge actor appeared on Hits Radio in March while discussing watching the Harry Potter franchise for the first time.

The conversation quickly moved beyond the films themselves and toward J.K. Rowling, whose views on transgender people have made her increasingly controversial among LGBTQ+ audiences and former fans of the franchise.

Garfield referred to Rowling as “she that shall remain nameless” before making his position on financially supporting her work clear.

“We shouldn’t be putting money in the pocket of inhumane legislation right now through ‘she that shall remain nameless’,” he said.

His comments reflect a distinction many fans have wrestled with in recent years, loving a fictional world that shaped their childhood while questioning whether they still want their money or public support connected to its creator.

For Garfield, the answer appears to be straightforward.

You can revisit the magic of the stories without ignoring the real world surrounding them.

What if one idea could help children stay close to the brothers and sisters they already love?

Actor Christian Bale co-founded the nonprofit Together California with Dr. Eric Esrailian and Tim McCormick to create a special village for children in the foster care system.

The idea began around 2008, after Bale became a father. He started learning more about child welfare and discovered how often siblings in foster care can be separated. That experience inspired him to work toward creating a place where brothers and sisters could grow up together.

After 16 years of planning, fundraising, land work and zoning efforts, the project officially broke ground in February 2024 in Palmdale, California. The estimated development cost is $22 million, supported through private donations and partners.

The planned foster care village includes 12 single-family homes, where groups of siblings can live together with professionally trained foster parents.

The community will also have transitional apartments for older teenagers preparing to live independently after aging out of foster care.

At the heart of the village will be a large community center with recreational spaces, therapy rooms, tutoring and job-training services.

For Bale, who has received many awards during his acting career, this project represents something deeply personal. He has described creating this village as the “role of a lifetime.”

It is a powerful example of how a personal dream can grow into something designed to give children family, stability and hope.

🧺 An unexpected friendship begins

Long before The Hangover made him a household name, Zach Galifianakis struck up an unlikely friendship with a woman named Elizabeth Mimi Haist at a Santa Monica laundromat. It was 1994, and he was still a struggling comedian. Mimi was seventy at the time, living on the tips customers gave her for folding their clothes. That meeting turned into a friendship that lasted nearly three decades.

🏠 Providing a place to call home

Success never made him forget the woman from the laundromat. When Galifianakis found out Mimi had fallen on hard times and was homeless, he moved quickly. He got her a comfortable apartment in Santa Monica and took over her rent and utility bills. She went from not knowing where she'd sleep to having a stable home of her own.

🌟 Trading the laundry for the red carpet

His help went beyond money. Galifianakis made Mimi a regular part of his public life, famously bringing her as his date to high profile movie premieres. She became a favorite of the paparazzi and the celebrities she met, walking the red carpet in elegant gowns her famous friend provided. Mimi ended up a minor celebrity in her own right.
* She attended the 2011 premiere of The Hangover Part II.
* She joined him again for the political comedy The Campaign in 2012.
* She made a final major appearance for The Hangover Part III in 2013.

🎬 A lasting bond and final farewell

The friendship held until Mimi passed away in 2021 at the age of 95, twenty seven years after it began. Her life became the subject of a documentary called Queen Mimi, which showed her resilient spirit and the actor's quiet generosity. Galifianakis rarely talked about any of it in interviews. He wanted the focus on their companionship, not on his charity. Through all of it, fame never changed his loyalty to the people he met along the way. ❤️

MacKenzie Scott has become one of the world’s most influential philanthropists, giving billions to charities and communities through her organization, Yield Giving. Surprisingly, her approach to philanthropy was inspired by a book about writing.

While in college, Scott reread Annie Dillard’s The Writing Life and returned to a passage she had previously highlighted. The message encouraged writers to use their best ideas rather than saving them for some future time. Scott connected that lesson to her own wealth and decided that money could make a greater difference if it was given away during her lifetime.

After her 2019 divorce from Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, Scott received a significant stake in Amazon and later signed the Giving Pledge. She went on to donate more than $26 billion through thousands of grants supporting over 2,700 organizations and causes. In 2025 alone, she reportedly gave around $7.2 billion.

Her approach is also distinctive. Instead of tightly controlling how donations are spent, Scott often provides unrestricted funding, allowing organizations to decide how best to use the money. This trust-based model gives recipients greater freedom and flexibility.

Scott’s connection to writing runs deep. She studied English and creative writing at Princeton under Nobel Prize-winning author Toni Morrison and later worked as Morrison’s research assistant. Her debut novel, The Testing of Luther Albright, was published in 2005.

For Scott, a lesson from literature became a powerful philosophy for giving.

What are the chances that an entire family could end up celebrating the same birthday?

For Scierra Blair and José Ervin Jr., that extraordinary coincidence became a reality when their twins were born on August 18, 2023, the same date as both parents’ birthdays.

Scierra was born on August 18, 1992, while José was born on August 18, 1991. When they learned they were expecting twins, they could hardly have imagined that their children might one day share their special date too.

Their babies, José Ervin III and Ar'ria Lannette Ervin, were born at Cleveland Clinic Hillcrest Hospital in Ohio just one minute apart. José arrived at 12:35 a.m., followed by Ar'ria at 12:36 a.m. on August 18.

The timing was not entirely by chance. During a checkup on August 17, doctors recommended a C-section that afternoon. José asked whether it would be safe to wait a few more hours so the twins could arrive after midnight and share their parents’ birthday.

After doctors confirmed that waiting would not create a medical risk, Scierra agreed.

And just like that, what began as a family birthday became something truly unforgettable.

Now, four members of the family celebrate their birthdays on August 18, creating a rare family coincidence filled with memories, shared celebrations and plenty of birthday cake.
Would you want to share your birthday with your children?

Carter Blanchard was just 8 years old when he was learning to live with vitiligo, a condition that causes white patches to appear on the skin. He was diagnosed when he was only 5.

As the condition became more noticeable, Carter began struggling with his confidence. His mother, Stephanie Adcock, said that he would come home from school every day and tell her that he hated his face. She could see how deeply the condition was affecting him.

Then Carter discovered Rowdy, a 14-year-old black Labrador living in Oregon. Rowdy also had vitiligo and had been diagnosed during the same month as Carter. Seeing another living being with the same condition helped Carter feel less alone.

The two soon became online “pen pals,” creating a special connection even though they lived far apart.

Then something incredible happened. An anonymous donor paid for Carter and his mother to fly to Oregon so Carter could finally meet Rowdy in person.

Their meeting had a powerful effect on Carter. His mother said that Rowdy completely changed her son’s outlook.

Instead of feeling ashamed of his skin, Carter began to see it differently. The little boy who had once come home from school saying he hated his face started learning to love the very thing that had made him feel different.

Rowdy gave Carter something he desperately needed: a reminder that being different did not make him less special. Their friendship showed Carter that he was not alone, and that the thing he once wished he could hide could also become something he could proudly accept.

A man in the Philippines planted a pine tree decades ago, never knowing that one day it would help save an entire bus full of people. 🌲❤️

Epimaco Amancio, from Dalaguete, Cebu, planted the tree beside the road around 35 years ago. At the time, it was simply a small act of planting a tree. 🌱

Then, in 2010, a bus carrying dozens of passengers lost control while travelling downhill and headed toward a deep ravine. 🚌😨

But the bus crashed into Amancio’s tree, and the tree stopped it from plunging over the edge. 🌲🚌

Everyone on board escaped what could have been a devastating tragedy. 🙏❤️

When the elderly villager learned what had happened, he was photographed beside the very tree he had planted decades earlier — smiling proudly. 😊🌳

He planted it without expecting anything in return. No reward. No recognition. No idea who might someday need it. Just one small act of kindness that kept growing. 🌱❤️

And 35 years later, that tree was standing in exactly the right place at exactly the right moment. 🥹🌲

Sometimes, the good we put into the world takes years — even decades — to show us why it mattered. ❤️✨

Plant good things today. You never know whose life they might touch tomorrow. 🌱🙏💚
