Happy pub day to Ethan Long's HELLO, WORLD!--Book 1 in the Happy County picture book series for preschoolers. We're thrilled to have Ethan Long and Christy Ottaviano in conversation with Publishers Weekly to launch this vibrant, interactive series.

"Much like Richard Scarry’s Busy, Busy Town, Happy County is populated by a cast of cartoon animals with goofy names and a proclivity for getting into trouble . . . Amid Long’s engaging stories, interactive interstitials offer prompts to spell short words, sing, and seek and find various objects."―Publishers Weekly

"Long ventures into Scarry territory with elevated, cartoon-style overviews of Happy County . . . Young visitors will indeed be inclined to “Come back soon!” as the billboard on the road out urges." ―Booklist

Happy pub day to UNDER THE BROKEN SKY by Mariko Nagai, a beautifully told middle-grade novel-in-verse about a Japanese orphan's experience during World War II. It's not often that a book gets a review like this one in Booklist:

★"Published for middle-grade readers but necessary for all of humankind, Under the Broken Sky is a breathtaking work of literature."―Booklist, starred review

"Under the Broken Sky is a story of hope and resilience during one of history's tragic forced migrations. Mariko's beautiful free verse reveals the emotional impact on a child and her family."― Margarita Engle, Newbery Honor-winning author of The Surrender Tree

"Nagai writes in verse with both a detached hesitancy, as if looking at the story from a distance, and a deep understanding of the sisters’ pain through rich imagery that poetry so often allows. Echoing the hardships and redemption of many novels about World War II, this well-timed story about a lesser-known group of refugees adds an important chapter to the narrative of human oppression and survival."―School Library Journal

Those of you who have visited me at the Flatiron Building know my 1950s red pool chair. It has been with me since Holt’s offices were on 115 West 18th Street. I bought it years ago at the Chelsea Flea Market. It’s not able to move to the new space downtown so I’m planning to take it home where it can retire happily on our porch. Photo by Jessica Anderson who kept me laughing today despite the sad goodbye to the one-of-a-kind Flatiron.
