At 4 in the morning, Curtis lay on the cold concrete outside a veterinary clinic with his injured dog Princess wrapped in a blanket beside him. ❤️🐾

The Pit Bull had been hit by a car, and Curtis, who was newly homeless and had limited means, knew an emergency vet visit was beyond what he could afford. So instead of leaving Princess to suffer, he brought her to Angels of Assisi, a nonprofit animal shelter in Roanoke, Virginia, that also provides accessible veterinary care for people who need it, and stayed by her side until the clinic opened.

Princess could barely walk when the veterinary team took her in. She had a dislocated front leg, damaged teeth, and nerve damage in her back legs. Thankfully, her leg was put back into place without surgery, and she slowly began to regain her strength.

Angels of Assisi treated Princess without charging Curtis, because their mission is to make veterinary care accessible to families regardless of their circumstances.

Curtis continues to visit Princess, bringing her food and spending time with her as she recovers. And every time she sees him, she lights up.

He may not have had much, but he had one thing Princess needed most: someone who refused to leave her side. ❤️

Firefighters in Cleveland, North Carolina, arrived at their station to find something they never expected: a suitcase sitting outside. 💔🐾

Inside were a frightened mama dog and her five puppies, zipped up together and left behind. The firefighters immediately contacted Johnston County Animal Services, who took the family into their care while authorities investigated.

Despite the heartbreaking circumstances, the dogs were doing surprisingly well. About a week later, they were transferred to Saving Grace Animals for Adoption, where they could receive care and prepare for their next chapter.

Thankfully, this story ended the way every rescue story should. The mama dog and all five puppies were eventually adopted into loving homes.

They were abandoned in a suitcase, but they weren't abandoned by everyone. ❤️🐶
