Dangerous Minds | Ladies & Gentlemen, How Do?: Documentary on The Damned in The Works

looking forward to this one!

The best band that emerged out of the fertile soil of the UK punk movement in the 1970’s, is, for my money, The Damned. Sure, I love the Pistols, but they imploded as quickly as they emerged. The Clash were good but got bloated by the end. (Plus, I am forever bitter about having “Car Jamming” forc...

Dangerous Minds | The Name of This Band is Talking Heads: New ‘Chronology’ DVD burns down the house

yes, please. and check out the embedded youtube vid of the best era 'heads' doing 'crosseyed and painless'. killer.

The recently released Talking Heads: Chronology DVD is must-see TV for fans of the legendarily Caucasian 70s art school quartet who mutated into a futuristic Afrofunk-orchestra that rivaled Parliament-Funkadelic within just a few short years. Chronology charts the band’s progress from their stiff ...

Photo: Bob Gruen Using a silent video (from 8 mm film footage) uploaded to Vimeo by Ruby Max Fury, Clash fans synched audio from bootleg recordings to the film to re-create a sense of what it was like on the night of September 22, 1979 when the The Clash invaded New York City. Listen to The Flaming Lips' Six-Hour Song - Paste Magazine

Is your evening wide open? Like, totally free? The Flaming Lips’ six-hour song made its way onto the internet yesterday. Titled, “I Found a Star On the Ground,” the song isn’t pithy, to say the least. It’s a looping, stoner-friendly cut that frontman Wayne Coyne told Rolling Stone “It’s like the Vel...

Modern technology has made it incredibly easy to emulate the sound of a rock band. Plug the right guitar into the right amplifier and you're already on your way to sounding like Kurt Cobain. In fact, you don't even need the amplifier. Just plug the guitar into a computer and choose the "Kurt Cobain"...

really enjoying hurricane dub - headphone bliss

With the east coast of America still recovering from the effects of Irene, it seems like today’s American release of Grace Jones’ album Hurricane could not have come at a more inopportune moment. But as the album was originally released in Europe in 2008 the question remains - why did it take thre...

Dangerous Minds | Black Sabbath live in Paris, 1970

Black Sabbath were filmed live in Paris performing songs from their first album and Paranoid in December of 1970 for regional Yorkshire Television. It’s the best footage, bar none, that you will ever see of the band in their evil prime. A scorching, killer set of the devil’s music. Play it LOU...

Jenny Scheinman's Mischief And Mayhem: Live At The Village Vanguard : NPR

I was pretty psyched when my favorite jazz/noise/rock/avant-garde guitarist (Nels Cline) joined one of my favorite rock bands but maybe even happier when he hooked up with my favorite jazz/folk violinist (Jenny Scheinman). Not to mention intrepid and adventurous drummer Jim Black and bassist extrordinaire Todd Sickafoose. Good stuff.

The violinist is one of the most versatile musicians working today — Scheinman collaborates with Bill Frisell, Norah Jones and Jimmie Dale Gilmore, among others. Her newest band, featuring Wilco guitarist Nels Cline, plays in this live recording.
