Always a fan favorite, Bache audio comes to the sow with their Tribeca-001 speaker. A truly amazingly well balanced reference speaker. One of those speakers at the show that really needs no introduction, as their designer, Greg Belman, flips through some amazing song selections sitting quietly in the back of the room. (Notably missing from the room this year were the Alexus Audio amplifiers which Greg said are getting “a bit pricey” for the show! You will have to pair them back together in your own system to get the full effect of a “match made in Brooklyn!”
One room making a statement this year was curated by Vitalis Audio. Steampunk mod to your favorite B&W speaker? That is up to you. Stand up bass mod: dang! Sounded pretty good! ...if you like a speaker with a lot of bass...
ESD Acoustic making one of the biggest statements of the show. These horns literally blew some people away! Big detailed sound, perfect system for your spare ballroom...

Who’s going to Capital Audio Fest 2018??? Postphonic is gearing up to travel down to CAF in ROCKville MD THIS WEEKEND 11/3, 11/4!! Will be logging the show in general, but will also be vetting a handful of exceptional exhibitors to do feature reviews on!! Can’t Wait!!
ROOM DROP / One of the biggest highlights of Postphonic’s journal thus far was a listening sesh in the newly constructed listening room of co-founder Erik Haas (@plattersofspinningplastic). This was a truly remarkable visit as he has just taken delivery of a pair of custom made Klipsch Jubilees. The listening session revealed perhaps the most impressive example of low wattage, low distortion amplification available in the real world! It was an insane weekend of listening to exact representation of some of the best recorded and produced vinyl and high res digital in modern times. To be honest, it took Postphonic quite a while to actually process the quality, non-distorted high decibel, experience of the session! Very hard to put into words. Truly amazing to witness in person... Stay tuned for more on the room build and specs!

MOOG Audio! I know what you are thinking, this can’t be THE MOOG Audio, but turns out this shop was the ORIGINAL MOOG Audio! When MOOG instruments found out, the two MOOGs worked it out with a handshake agreement that the store would always “keep it electric!” Super friendly and helpful staff. Need guitar pedals? There is an entire room! Hundreds available, along with synths/electronic drums/etc./etc./etc./beep/beep/1/O.
Art Et Son! Passed by while walking down Saint-Laurent. Some strong gear imported from around the world. Newly minted, Art Et Son is introducing, reintroducing HI-FI to the area with some cool brands, with cool sound! While there, the store owner was demoing a pair of Grado headphones for a budding audiophile!
Stumbled upon: LA FIN DU VINYLE! Ageless vinyl shop full of treasures. Stocked with classics and a fantastically cool vibe and staff. Grabbed a custom shop record mat on the way out... as one does!
First stop: AudioShop! Fantastic, classic audio store right in the middle of Montreal. AudioShop has been in this location for over 40 years! But if you want to check them out in this location you better hurry up! They are moving down the street in TWO WEEKS! Great to meet Sylvian, the store owner - A warm personality and true audio aficionado! If you ever need great sound in CA, be sure to look up AudioShop!

Basche speakers and Alexus Audio. Two talented audio designers and generally great guys. Definitely one of the top 3 best sounding rooms at the show. Brooklyn based, this equipment is some of the best. Beautiful, transparent, full, real sound. Basche introducing bookshelf speakers for the first time this year. Now this is interesting. Kind of like the SONOS for turntables. This all-in-one unit has the most insane sound stage out of, well, all all-in-one units! Everyone visiting +Audio was playing find the subwoofer. Combining Pro-Ject turntables with 3.5 woofers, DSP technology, hundreds of hours of testing, algorithm programming and engineering, bluetooth/usb etc. etc, this unit produced incredible sound, with excellent plinth and vibration insulation. Great to see Electrocompaniet at the show after a few years away. What a great sounding, and beautifully packaged system. Also interesting to see the pairing of their own speaker line as well. Apparently they have been manufacturing speakers for about 7 years now!
