Jungles in Paris

Jungles in Paris We produce and present short, focused stories on Nature + Culture around the world.

Jungles in Paris tells stories about nature and culture. We prioritize the local, the endemic, the time-honored, and the meaningful. Rather than pure advocacy, we practice purpose-driven media. We aim in our work to restore a sense of enchantment around the things that matter, employing creative nonfiction methods to propose a more enlightened way of engaging with the ecosystems and cultural possibilities around us. We've had a couple of great screenings out here at #sundancefilmfestival with Dulce. And for the first time the whole team is in one place! Including directors Angello Faccini and Guille Isa and EPs Anastasia Khoo and Lee Pace. (Also in this shot: producers Darrell Hartman, OliverHartman and Annie Bush.) Most of us said goodbye to Utah yesterday or this morning, after a very special long weekend. To see our film about one brave girl and the reality of climate change, look for more festival screenings in coming months, from DC to Stockholm. CC Conservation International

NEW STORY: Every year outside Tokyo, a crowd gathers to watch Buddhist monks walk on red-hot coals. A path to enlightenment, a testament to the powerful of rigorous daily practice. Photos by Pauline Forge / Public Lens. Check it out!

Every year, on the second Sunday of March, an unusual procession leaves Takao-san Yakuo-in, an 8th-century temple located about 50 km (30 miles) west of Tokyo. Monks dressed in white robes and black caps march to the sound of conch-shell horns while reciting mantras, in solemn preparation for the ri...

When illness strikes in the Peruvian Amazon, the person to seek out has traditionally been a curandero. Spanish for "healer," this skilled practitioner treats everything from bad luck to a bad back. The forest is his pharmacy. His knowledge of native roots, barks, flowers, leaves, is a centuries-old...

STORY #102: "The Palm Tree Harvester," a meditation on an ancient livelihood in La Gomera, Canary Islands. Shot & Directed by Angello Faccini, who also co-edited with Pablo Paloma. Text by Greg von Portz.

Humans have commandeered the palm tree as a religious symbol and a sun shelter, woven its fibers into mats and chairs, and eaten and drunk from its coconuts. A native plant in many an early civilization, it has been providing for millennia. On La Gomera, part of Spain’s Canary archipelago, this tr...

Just posted: a new story about the Nenets people of Siberia. Most were forced into a sedentary lifestyle during the Soviet era, but a few of these traditional reindeer herders still practice the nomadic way of life. "They travel the tundra with their reindeer throughout the year, going up to the windy coast in the summer to stay clear of mosquitoes, and back down to the forest at the onset of winter. They live in large reindeer skin tents, called chums, and stay encamped for days or weeks before moving on to new grazing grounds." Photos by Mattia Passarini Photography.
