Eileen Woelkers Miller and Paul Miller, who previously appeared in the documentary "Killed by Auto - Eyes on the Road, Hands on the Wheel", appeared with Rep. Rosemary Brown and other victims' families in Harrisburg on April 30, 2019, to advocate the passage of House Bill 37. This would make Pennsylvania one of only eighteen other states to ban handheld cellular devices while driving.

As of April 2019, only eighteen states have legislation that ban handheld cellular devices while operating a motor vehicle. State Rep. Rosemary Brown has lis...

Killed by Auto - Eyes on the Road, Hands on the Wheel

According to the National Highway Transportation and Safety Administration, approximately 10% of all motor vehicle fatalities in the United States are the result of distracted driving. In reality, this number is most likely underestimated.

Cell phone records do not always show what a driver was doing and thinking during the moments leading up to a crash. Roadway fatalities that may very well have been the result of distracted driving therefore do not become categorized as such.

As of 2019, only 16 out of 50 states have state-wide legislation prohibiting handheld cell-phone use while driving. Furthermore, the laws that are in place may be woefully ineffective.

Nevertheless, there are individuals who turn their tragedies into positive energy, and this film explores several of those brave souls.

Sure doesn't help the pain of losing our daughter Nikki Kellenyi but knowing when you get pulled over for DUI of cell phones by the NJ State Police they can choose to give you a wristband and a brochure about Nikki's death and her work to save you from being killed by someone texting and driving. That my friends.....is priceless.

Families for Safe Streets and DOT Cut the Ribbon on Myrtle-Wyckoff Plaza | Streetsblog New York City

In 2013, Ella Kottick Bandes lost her life to a distracted bus driver on Wyckoff Ave. in Brooklyn. It was a terribly designed intersection that I personally experienced while filming "Killed by Auto". Ella is paid tribute in the film by her parents, Judy Kottick and Ken Bandes. They have since successfully advocated a redesign, as this article point out.

Members of Families for Safe Streets and DOT officials celebrated the completion of a new pedestrian plaza at the Myrtle-Wyckoff transit hub. The plaza, on the block of Wyckoff Avenue between Myrtle and Gates, is the centerpiece of a major safety project that will reduce conflicts between drivers an...

Killed by Auto - a documentary about traffic violence

The hit-and-run driver who took Guler Ugur's life was sentenced to prison on Oct. 17. He will have his first parole hearing next April, and will be eligible for release next October if approved.

It is my hope laws will change. That is why I produced the documentary about this case called "Killed By Auto". There has been a fundraiser established to help promote and distribute this film, and it has met 25% of its goal. There are only two weeks remaining to meet the minimum amount required for funds to be awarded.

Please consider making a pledge to help this important issue be brought to the public's attention. If you cannot afford a pledge, even a minimal one, please consider sharing among others. Thank you.

The fundraiser has achieved its first 10% goal, with three weeks remaining. It must achieve the entire fundraising objective to be rewarded the proceeds. Please notify everyone who you feel would be willing to make a contribution, even if it is nominal. And please repeatedly share on social media. Our family through hard work brought the killer of my 30 year old daughter to trial on manslaughter charges a rare occurrence She was killed on a Brooklyn sidewalk on December 6, 2015 at 5:30 PM after purchasing a small box of lights for her first tree. The case want to trial in 2017, After 12 days of testimony and 2 days of jury deliberation the rail ended in a mistrial because one of the jurors "would not put a black man in jail" , this was in 2017. The mitigating facts of this trail should be made public. We are still waiting for a retrial, witness memories grow dim over time so the defense stalls and is allowed to stall. Without definitive protocol these cases get dismissed on simple things like officers notes not being perfect. This is difficult with only 20 investigators for the 5 Counties of NYS. The lack of prosecutsion success discourages the district attorneys and the police, why work hard when the Chief of police The camera footage shows the SUV driving up on the side walk sidewalk and driving never hitting his brakes even upon hitting my beloved daughter and he continued to drive another 25 feet before he stopped the car. Our family attended the trial every day and watched the court give the killer and his defense attorney a great deal of shall we call it leeway. Parking tickets, booting cars, violation caught on camera bring the money into the city but protecting the innocent costs money so we have another part to the problem. But there is so much more we learned from this experience that the public should know about to properly improve pedestrian safety. I would be more than willing to share all we know with your group if you are sincere and brave enough to put yourself out there and make the truth public knowledge. There are hundreds of more injustices endangering pedestrians is ever told because family may be out of state, language barriers and silent sufferers.
