Sure doesn't help the pain of losing our daughter Nikki Kellenyi but knowing when you get pulled over for DUI of cell phones by the NJ State Police they can choose to give you a wristband and a brochure about Nikki's death and her work to save you from being killed by someone texting and driving. That my friends.....is priceless.

Families for Safe Streets and DOT Cut the Ribbon on Myrtle-Wyckoff Plaza | Streetsblog New York City

In 2013, Ella Kottick Bandes lost her life to a distracted bus driver on Wyckoff Ave. in Brooklyn. It was a terribly designed intersection that I personally experienced while filming "Killed by Auto". Ella is paid tribute in the film by her parents, Judy Kottick and Ken Bandes. They have since successfully advocated a redesign, as this article point out.

Members of Families for Safe Streets and DOT officials celebrated the completion of a new pedestrian plaza at the Myrtle-Wyckoff transit hub. The plaza, on the block of Wyckoff Avenue between Myrtle and Gates, is the centerpiece of a major safety project that will reduce conflicts between drivers an...

Our family through hard work brought the killer of my 30 year old daughter to trial on manslaughter charges a rare occurrence
She was killed on a Brooklyn sidewalk on December 6, 2015 at 5:30 PM after purchasing a small box of lights for her first tree. The case want to trial in 2017, After 12 days
of testimony and 2 days of jury deliberation the rail ended in a mistrial because one of the jurors "would not put a black man in jail" , this was in 2017. The mitigating facts of this trail should be made public.
We are still waiting for a retrial, witness memories grow
dim over time so the defense stalls and is allowed to stall.
Without definitive protocol these cases get dismissed on simple things like officers notes not being perfect. This is difficult with only 20 investigators for the 5 Counties of NYS.
The lack of prosecutsion success discourages the district attorneys and the police, why work hard when the Chief of police
The camera footage shows the SUV driving up on the side walk sidewalk and driving never hitting his brakes even upon hitting my beloved daughter and he continued to drive another 25 feet before he stopped the car.
Our family attended the trial every day and watched the court give the killer and his defense attorney a great deal of shall we call it leeway.
Parking tickets, booting cars, violation caught on camera bring the money into the city but protecting the innocent costs money so we have another part to the problem.
But there is so much more we learned from this experience that the public should know about to properly improve pedestrian safety.
I would be more than willing to share all we know with your group if you are sincere and brave enough to put yourself out there and make the truth public knowledge.
There are hundreds of more injustices endangering pedestrians is ever told because family may be out of state, language barriers and silent sufferers.
