Very inspiring words for hopeful writers looking to become published authors.

One year ago today, I finished writing THE COMPANION. I had a deadline of May 31st, and I met it. I registered for the PREPARE YOUR PITCH workshop with Women's Fiction Writer's Association (fabulous group) and the pitch that was shaped by the other writers in my group became the pitch that worked in my agent query and then the query he sent to publishing houses. In the space of six weeks, I signed with an agent and accepted a book deal with Lake Union Publishing. I'm currently writing my next novel for them. The Companion will be out in January 2020; the new novel in January 2021. I know that timeline is not common; I know I am lucky and blessed.
.
But I am not writing this for some sort of bragging rights. I am writing this for those who are about to embark on this upcoming Prepare Your Pitch adventure. I am writing for those who are struggling with their novel, whether it is with plot or lack of time or self-doubt or anything else. YOU CAN DO IT. YOUR STORY MATTERS.
.
So what is on the wall above my desk? The very first handwritten page of The Companion. The just completed book cover. And the admonition that supports me through the tight deadline for the new book: It Always Seems Impossible Until It's Done.
.
So keep writing. Letter by letter. Word by word. Sentence by sentence. Story by story.
.
YOU CAN DO IT. YOUR STORY MATTERS.

“Hlad's debut snares readers with its fresh angle on the blitz of WWII, focusing on the homing pigeons used by the British, and the people who trained and cared for them… Descriptions of the horrors of war and the excitement of battle are engaging, and the unusual element of the carrier pigeons lends an intriguing twist. This story will speak not only to romance readers and WWII buffs but also to animal advocates and anyone who enjoys discovering quirky details that are hidden in history.” —Publishers Weekly on The Long Flight Home (Kensington Publishing Corp.)
